Although it hasn't changed much over the years, the Chevrolet Express 2500 is still very much a part of the American scene. What keeps the decades-old design going? When it comes to virtues like room and ruggedness, there's simply no substitute for the traditional full-size van.
What's New for 2015
As usual, the Express 2500 is essentially unchanged.
Choosing Your Chevrolet Express 2500
As the medium-duty Express model, the 2500 has a payload capacity of 2,705 pounds and can tow up to 8,600 pounds. The lineup is divided into two series: Passenger and Cargo. The Express Passenger can be configured to seat eight or twelve people, while the Cargo comes only with two front seats. Both versions offer up to 216 cubic-feet of cargo space. If you need more than that, the extended-wheelbase (155 inches) Cargo model can swallow 253 cubic-feet.
The Express starts out with 4.8-liter V8 good for 285 horsepower. The optional 6-liter V8 provides a hefty boost to 342 horsepower. There's also a 282-horsepower version of the 6-liter that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG). Finally, the Express Cargo can get the Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 with 260 horsepower and a whopping 525 pound-feet of torque. The Duramax increases payload capacity to about 3,200 pounds. All engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Cargo and Passenger models are each offered in two trim levels:
The Express 2500 is one of the most customizable vehicles you can buy. The extensive option list applies to all configurations, so you can get everything from navigation to remote start even on utilitarian WT.
The Express Cargo's gasoline V8s are fully capable of getting the job done in most work environments. The Duramax engine, which adds an eye-popping $12,000 to the sticker, is aimed at buyers with serious hauling needs. With regard the Passenger model, the LS works best as a light-duty shuttle, whereas the plusher LT makes the most sense for family transportation.
