Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.
You can interpret our ratings in the following way:
5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.
4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.
3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.
2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.
1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.
2015 Ford Transit-250 OVERVIEW
Ford has long dominated the commercial van segment, and the 2015 Transit aims to pick up right where the old E-Series leaves off. This time, however, it's a modern design with lots of engine choices and tools to offer its buyers a more sophisticated vehicle.
What's New for 2015
The Transit is an all-new design for 2015, replacing most versions of the the E-Series. The Transit is based off of Ford's European commercial van line of the same name.
Choosing Your Ford Transit 250
The Transit comes in either van or wagon body styles, essentially commercial and passenger versions. While the van comes only in a base trim level, the wagon is also offered in a more feature-rich XLT trim. A 3.7-liter V6 is standard, but both a 3.2-liter five-cylinder turbodiesel and a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 are options. All are available in three roof heights, three lengths, two different rear door setups and either hinged side door or a sliding one.
Most commercial buyers will appreciate the ease of maintenance from the traditional 3.7-liter V6, but those who plan to haul or cover long distances may find use in the diesel or Ecoboost options, both of which offer considerably more power and flexibility for heavy loads. For those carrying people, the base Wagon trim will likely have all the convenience features they need.
