The junior sibling of Hyundai's popular Santa Fe crossover, the Santa Fe Sport uses its compact size to its advantage, delivering an engaging driving experience on par with the best in its class. While there's no third row, the Sport is more than capable of transporting five passengers and whatever they want to bring along.
What's New For 2015
The Sport's steering and suspension systems have been firmed up a bit, and a power liftgate is available for the first time.
Choosing Your Santa Fe Sport
The Sport is about 8.5 inches shorter than the standard Santa Fe, but interior room still ranks among the leaders of its class. Up front is new two-tone grille that further differentiates the Sport from its larger stablemate. If you don't require seven-passenger capacity, you'll be rewarded with a highly maneuverable and energetic compact crossover. The base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 190 horsepower, and you can opt for a 2-liter turbo with a stout 264 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission is used with both engine, and all-wheel drive is available across the board.
The Santa Fe Sport is offered in Base and 2.0T trim levels:
Base
Gets the 2.4-liter engine and some thoughtful standard touches like tinted rear glass, Bluetooth phone and audio, LED accent lighting and 17-inch alloy wheels. The six-speaker sound system comes with a CD player and satellite radio. The Popular Equipment package adds heated front seats with driver power, a rearview camera, heated mirrors, automatic headlamps, fog lights, roof rails, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an audio touchscreen. The Premium Equipment package has all that, plus a leather interior with passenger power and a sliding rear seat, blind sport monitoring, keyless ignition, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control and upgraded gauges. If you want it all, and then some, the Tech package tops off the Sport with a navigation system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats with driver memory, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, rear parking sensors, a premium Dimension sound system and a hands-free power liftgate.
2.0T
Comes equipped with the 2-liter turbo engine, 18-inch wheels and a towing package. The contents of the Popular and Premium packages are standard, which leaves just one option package, appropriately named Ultimate. It furnishes everything in the base model's Tech package, plus an Infinity 12-speaker surround-sound system, LED taillights, 19-inch wheels and special badging.
Since the Sport shares much of its equipment (both standard and optional) with the midsize Santa Fe, you can put together one luxurious compact crossover. However, all that goodness comes at a price. Be aware that a fully loaded Sport can surpass in price many premium-brand vehicles of similar size.
