Expert Rating

4.5 (Excellent)
16 City / 22 Highway

Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG OVERVIEW

What Mercedes-Benz calls a four-door coupe is really a powerful midsize luxury sedan with beautifully expressive styling. Parked at the top of the CLS-Class is the high-performance CLS63 AMG, which moves just as aggressively as it looks.

What's New For 2015

Every CLS63 AMG receives new front-end styling, a mildly freshened interior and standard all-wheel drive. The S-Model package of performance upgrades is standard now as well, so the car's official name becomes CLS63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC.

Choosing Your Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG

Like most regular coupes, the CLS63 AMG is designed to carry four passengers and features a dramatic sloping roofline. Front passengers enjoy the same spaciousness as in the E-Class sedan (on which the CLS is based), but there's slightly less headroom and smaller windows in the rear. Such are the sacrifices you make to get the enchanting exterior styling.

The 63 AMG's twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 produces 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque for blistering acceleration. A specially tuned seven-speed automatic transmission with launch control and all-wheel drive come standard. You also get a limited-slip differential, 19-inch titanium-finish wheels, an aggressively tuned adaptive suspension, a sport steering wheel with shift paddles, premium leather upholstery, a power rear sunshade and a split-folding rear seat. A carbon fiber engine cover is standard, and body components of the same material are available to reduce weight.

Other equipment is similar to non-AMG V8 models, which means you gets heated front seats with lumbar adjustments and driver memory, a navigation system, a sunroof, auto-dimming mirrors all around, Bluetooth phone and audio, voice controls, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with a six-DVD/CD changer, and HD and satellite radio.

The Premium package tacks on adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a power-closing trunk lid, ventilated front seats, a rear power sunshade, and keyless access and ignition. The available Lane Tracking package comes with blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning. The Driver Assistance package includes those features, plus adaptive cruise control and active lane keeping assist. You can also order the Parktronic package with front and rear parking sensors and an automated parking system.

The selection of individual options includes infrared night vision, heated rear seats, a rearview camera, massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel and a premium Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system. Available on the 63 AMG only are high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes.

CarsDirect Tip

Now that the S-Model features are standard, the CLS 63 AMG performs as well as it possibly can right out of the box. You will probably find the optional safety technology to be quite reassuring in a car of this ferocious potential.
