The Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers a full lineup of mid-size luxury cars. With its reputation for quality and refined luxury, the E-Class cars offer comfort with enough space for four or five adults.
For the 2015 model year, the E400 joins the E-Class with a sedan, a coupe and a convertible.
What's New for 2015
The E400 group is all new to the E-Class this year, excluding the E400 Hybrid, which is not included here. The family are all powered by a 3-liter bi-turbo V6, also new to the E-Class lineup.
Choosing Your Mercedes-Benz E400
Your first decision about a new E400 will be which body style you want: sedan, coupe or convertible. This last is also known as the Cabriolet.
All three E400 body styles come with the same powertrain featuring a 329-horsepower V6 and a seven-speed automatic transmission equipped with paddle shifters.
Your mechanical options are limited to the choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive for the sedan or coupe; the convertible is available only with rear-wheel drive.
Sedan
The sedan, which seats five and is the largest of the three E400 models, comes equipped with a sunroof, collision-prevention, attention-assist, lane-keeping and blind-spot-assist safety systems, and a sport-styling package. Also standard is a premium package that includes heated and ventilated front seats, a harmon/kardon Logic 7 sound system, Bluetooth, navigation, rearview camera and power rear-window shade.
Optional packages for the sedan feature parking assist; advanced driver-assist systems such as active cruise control; lighting with high-beam assistance; and Mercedes-Benz’s packages of safety and convenience apps. Stand-alone options for the sedan include a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and a rear-seat entertainment system.
Coupe
The coupe seats four with rear bucket seats. Standard equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, a three-spoke steering wheel and sport-style heated front seats with integrated headrests. The coupe’s packages include all those available for the sedan, the difference being that all are optional only on the coupe. Stand-alone options include ventilated front seats, keyless start and Nappa leather seats.
Convertible
The convertible, of course, comes with a power-retractable soft top in four color choices that can be paired with virtually any of the 12 paint colors. (The exception is the Mars Red exterior paint, with which only the black and red top colors are available.) The convertible also features wind-blocker technology that automatically comes into play when the top is down. Available packages are the same as for the coupe, except that the premium package replaces the rear-window shade with a neck-level heating system in the front seats.
The sedan's significantly higher basic price reflects the inclusion of the premium package as standard equipment. Beyond that, other additional features, such as the more advanced safety systems, require the purchase of additional packages, pushing the price up quickly.
