2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Overview
What's New for 2015
After a year on hiatus, the S65 AMG returns in sedan and coupe form on the current S-Class platform, which debuted last year.
Choosing Your Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG
The S65 AMG sits at the top of the full-size S-Class, which alone speaks volumes about its uncompromising character. The sedan has its appeal, certainly, but because of its pillarless design, the coupe is especially exhilarating to ride in when the windows are down. That experience might be more important to your rear passengers than having their own doors.
The S65's extravagance begins with a turbocharged 6-liter V12 engine that produces 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Both the sedan and coupe hustle from zero to 60 mph in about 4 seconds flat. The AMG also gets a specially calibrated seven-speed automatic transmission, a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension and standard 20-inch wheels. Exclusive AMG styling touches and trim are deployed throughout the car.
Nearly every S-Class available feature comes standard on the S65 AMG. It's hard to overstate exactly what that means in terms of luxury and convenience. Every example carries heady equipment like a 24-speaker Burmester 3D surround-sound system, night vision with pedestrian detection, executive rear seating and Magic Body Control, which automatically adjusts the suspension to upcoming road surfaces. The adaptive cruise control system will brake, accelerate and steer on its own. You also get every other safety assist in the Mercedes-Benz arsenal.
All of this comes in addition to more "typical" S-Class features like a panoramic sunroof with adjustable tinting, a hands-free power trunk lid, ventilated and massaging seats, and a surround-view camera system.
As you can imagine, options are few and highly specialized. Both body styles can get carbon-ceramic brakes and special "designo" interior trim/color packages. The sedan is eligible for a rear console with heated and cooled cupholders, a refrigerator and swing-out tray tables.
For buyers at this level, the difference in MSRPs -- $222,000 for the sedan and $230,900 for the coupe -- is trivial. So, too, is the cost of any option. So indulge and get exactly what you want.
