2015 Nissan Pathfinder Overview

John Diether
Automotive Editor - November 3, 2014

The Pathfinder transitioned from a truck-based SUV to a pavement-friendly crossover a few years ago, a change that buyers applauded with their pocketbooks. And why not? The Pathfinder delivers ample room for seven passengers, respectable fuel economy and a relaxing, sedan-like ride.

What's New For 2015

All trim levels get additional standard features, and the optional all-wheel drive system now comes with hill descent control.

Choosing Your Nissan Pathfinder

All Pathfinders are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 260 horsepower, matched to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). As expected in this class, the Pathfinder is a front-driver with all-wheel drive available across the board. While it's not designed for boulder-bashing anymore, the Nissan is more capable off-pavement than many competitors. Towing capacity reaches 5,000 pounds, enough for pleasure craft and campers.

The Pathfinder covers a broad swath of market territory with its deep range:

S

Kicks off the lineup with equipment like tri-zone automatic climate control, a six speaker sound system with a six-CD changer, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a sliding and reclining second row.

SV

Adds wealth of popular features, including a rearview camera, a power driver seat, automatic headlights, a roof rack, keyless ignition, rear parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Bluetooth phone and a color information display. The upgraded sound system includes satellite radio, but loses the CD changer in favor of a single-disc player.

SL

Ups the luxury quotient with a leather interior with power for the passenger seat and driver memory, heated front and second-row seats, and a power liftgate. You also get blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, fog lights, heated mirrors and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The SL Tech package adds an 8-inch color touchscreen, a surround-view camera system, a towing hitch and harness, a household-style power outlet and a 13-speaker Bose audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. The SL Premium package includes all that, plus dual sunroofs and a navigation system.

Platinum

Comes standard with everything you get can on the other trims, plus ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable heated steering wheel and 20-inch wheels.

All Pathfinders can get a Family Entertainment Package with dual 7-inch screens and DVD-playing capability.

CarsDirect Tip

It's refreshing that all-wheel drive is optional on all trims from top to bottom. That way, you can decide where to concentrate your options budget -- on all-weather capability or creature comforts. Of course, you can have both if finances allow.
