    Expert Rating

    4.9 (Excellent)
    MPG
    26 City / 33 Highway

Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

    2015 Nissan Rogue OVERVIEW

One of a plethora of compact crossovers to choose from, the Rogue distinguishes itself with robust styling and seven-passenger capability. You also get access to sophisticated safety technology that's normally reserved for more expensive vehicles.

    What's New For 2015

The Rogue enters 2015 with minimal changes.

    Choosing Your Nissan Rogue

Like most crossovers of its size, the Rogue is front-drive with all-wheel drive available as an option. Every example carries a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 170 horsepower and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The available third row boosts seating capacity to seven, a rarity in this class. Although the rearmost seats are really designed for children, the sliding (and reclining) second row keeps things from getting too cramped. With the seats folded down, the Rogue is ready to handle up to 70 cubic-feet of cargo, which is about as good as it gets for a compact crossover.

The Rogue is offered in three trim levels, each with its own option packages:

    S

Comes with all the expected passenger-car conveniences, plus some upscale bits like a rearview camera, LED running lights, a color 5-inch infotainment display, and Bluetooth phone and audio. The four-speaker sound system includes a CD player. The Family package adds a two-person third row, rear privacy glass and run-flat tires (in place of the spare).

    SV

Builds on the S with a power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, standard privacy glass, keyless ignition, automatic headlights, roof rails, integrated smartphone apps and a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio. The SV rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels, and the Family package remains available. For a major dose of technology, you can opt for the SV Premium package, which includes navigation, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, forward collision alert and a surround-view camera system with moving object detection. A panoramic sunroof is available as a standalone option.

    SL

Tops off the Rogue with a leather interior with heated front seats, a power liftgate, voice controls, 18-inch wheels and an eight-speaker Bose sound system with a six-CD changer. Navigation and the surround-view camera system are also standard. The SL can get a Premium package of its own with the remaining contents of the SV Premium package, plus a panoramic sunroof and LED headlamps. Note that the third row is not available on the SL.

    CarsDirect Tip

The price difference between the base S and mid-level SV is small enough that we can't think of a compelling reason to choose the S. In fact, there's a strong case for jumping straight to the SL, which comes in at just under the $30,000 mark, even with all-wheel drive.
