Think of the Cross Country as a V60 wagon that's been to finishing school in the country. You get 2.6 inches of extra ground clearance, underbody skid plates, chunky fender moldings and standard 18-inch wheels. Every Cross Country carries all-wheel drive with hill descent control. The 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine produces 250 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Cross Country is available in upscale Premiere and Platinum trim levels:
Carries a leather interior with power front seats and driver memory, automatic wipers and headlights, a sunroof, power-folding rear headrests, Bluetooth phone and audio, and an eight-speaker sound system with satellite and HD radio. You also get roof rails, configurable gauges, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-folding side mirrors and a pop-up cargo organizer. Aluminum interior trim is standard, and you can opt for genuine wood or piano black trim.
- The Premiere can get a Climate package with heated front and rear seats, heated wiper washer nozzles, a heated steering wheel and windshield, plus an more advanced cabin air filtration system. Integrated child booster seats can be added to the package if you wish.
- The available Blind Spot Information System furnishes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors.
- The Technology package adds adaptive cruise control, a driver alertness monitor, automatic high-beam control and road sign information.
- Finally, there's the Convenience package with a rear parking camera, a universal garage door opener, keyless access and ignition, and a digital compass.
Adds a navigation system, auto-dimming side mirrors, ambient interior lighting and a 12-speaker surround-sound system. The contents of the Technology and Convenience packages are also standard.
Some the Platinum features, such as navigation and the upgraded sound system, can be added separately to the Premiere. Optional on both models are a rear entertainment system and an automated parallel parking system.
There's barely any price difference between a Premiere with a couple of option packages and the Platinum. Unless you're fully satisfied with the standard equipment list, upgrading to the Platinum makes sense.
