2016 BMW ALPINA B6 Gran Coupe Overview

John Diether
Automotive Editor - August 5, 2015

The most exclusive member of BMW's 6 Series Gran Coupe family, the ALPINA B6 is meticulously tuned and tailored to triumph in just about every measure of a luxury car's goodness. The credit goes to the hand-builders at APLINA, the German firm authorized to work aftermarket magic on select BMW models.

What's New for 2016

The B6 gets a reshaped nose, upgraded brakes, and 60 more horsepower than before.

Choosing Your ALPINA B6 Gran Coupe

The B6 wears the same fastback four-door body as other Gran Coupes, but nearly every mechanical system has been massaged for maximum performance. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 lays down 600 horsepower, versus a max of 560 in other applications. Exclusive ALPINA tuning extends to the adaptive suspension, exhaust system, and eight-speed automatic transmission. Larger brakes and standard all-wheel drive are also part of the package. The B6 is stunningly fast for a spacious four-seater, capable of hitting 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and topping out at 200 mph.

The B6 also receives specific 20-inch wheels with summer performance tires, special blue-illuminated instrumentation, and a host of interior trim upgrades. As with the rest of the line, a palate of premium leathers and woods are available.

The B6 is as fully equipped as you would expect for a line-topping model. Standard perks include multicontour front seat with heat and memory, power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive LED headlamps with automatic high beam, navigation with real-time traffic data, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

For enhanced safety, the Driver Assistance Plus package ($1,700) adds lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation, blind spot monitoring, surround-view cameras, and (optional) adaptive cruise control. On the luxury end, the Executive package ($3,200) packs massaging and ventilated front seats, power rear sunshades, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, and ceramic-finish controls. You can also add a Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system ($3,700) and night vision with pedestrian detection ($2,300).
