The Ford Fusion Energi is an ideal blend of fuel economy and family-sized space. It takes the comfortable and fun-to-drive Fusion midsize sedan and adds an efficient gas-electric powertrain that allows for electric-only propulsion. This means you can go gas-free on your commute around town, without having to deal with range anxiety. And there's still room for five people and gas-powered range for longer drives.
What's New for 2016
For 2016, the Fusion Energi gets minor paint and equipment modifications.
Choosing Your Ford Fusion Energi
The Energi comes with a 2-liter four-cylinder mated to a 7.6 kWh electric motor for a total of 195 horsepower. It has an EPA-estimated range of 20 miles on electric power only, but selectable driving modes can either prolong or shorten the time the gas engine is assisting the electric motor. An eCVT transmission sends power only to the front wheels -- all-wheel drive isn't available.
The Energi is available in two trim levels.
SE
The SE comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a six-speaker audio system with MyFord Touch, satellite radio, rear parking sensors, backup camera, LED taillights and a 12-volt charger.
The Driver Assist Package bundles blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning and rain-sensing wipers. Also available are options like active park assist, adaptive cruise control, a moonroof, keyless entry and start, navigation, inflatable rear seat belts and a heated steering wheel.
Titanium
The Titanium adds unique 17-inch wheels, a 10-way power passenger seat, keyless entry and start, a 12-speaker Sony audio system with HD radio, ambient lighting and a rear spoiler. Options are similar to thsoe on the SE, and include the Driver Assist Package, as well as a moonroof, adaptive cruise control, active park assist, navigation, heated steering wheel, cooled front seats and inflatable rear seat belts.
SE is probably enough for most buyers, although common options like keyless entry and start will drive the price up closer to the Titanium. A fully-loaded Titanium gets into $40,000 territory, so look for discounts from dealers in addition to state and federal incentives.
