In 2014, INFINITI initiated its new model-naming system. With this change, the old INFINITI M sedan became the new Q70. In 2015, INFINITI chose to lengthen the Q70's wheelbase by 5.9 inches for a new Q70L version, giving the rear-seat passengers an extra 5.6 inches of legroom. The extra legroom is likely to attract executives who have a chauffeur, resulting in a lot more time spent doing business deals in the back seat than driving from Point A to Point B. Still, anyone who appreciates a roomier rear seat might be tempted by the longer model.
What's New for 2016
All-new last year, the Q70L gets no significant change for the 2016 model year.
Choosing Your INFINITI Q70L
Choosing the Q70L that fits your needs the best is a snap, starting with a choice between drivetrains, as reflected in the trim-level designation. Base 3.7 trim includes a 3.7-liter V6 that produces 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The alternative, dubbed 5.6, substitutes a 5.6-liter V8 that delivers 416 horsepower and 414 pound-feet. Both engines are available with optional all-wheel drive as an alternative to standard rear-drive, and both come with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Priced at $51,350, the base-level Q70L gets standard features that keep it on par with some of the best German models. Inside, amenities include Japanese ash wood trim, 10-way power front seats, heated front and rear leatherette seats, a six-speaker audio system, rearview monitor, and dual-zone climate control. Active Noise Control is standard, along with a 7-inch display screen and power tilt/telescopic steering column. Outside, key features include automatic LED headlights, power-folding side-view mirrors with heat, rain-sensing wipers and a soft-close trunk.
Adding all-wheel drive brings the price to $53,500.
Four option packages are available for the Q70 3.7 or Q70 3.7 AWD:
- The least expensive option package is actually free of charge (complimentary, as INFINITI puts it). That's the Premium package, which includes upgrades like navigation, voice recognition, traffic and weather alerts, INFINITI Connection telematics, an Around View monitor, and a 10-speaker Bose sound system. Also included are climate-controlled front seats, leather-appointed seating, and a heated steering wheel.
- Next up is the $1,150 Performance Tire and Wheel package, which includes 20-inch alloy wheels and sport brakes.
- Then comes the $3,300 Technology package, adding such items as Intelligent Cruise Control, lane-departure warning with prevention, blind-spot monitoring and intervention, forward collision warning, adaptive front lighting, and more.
- The $3,900 Deluxe Touring package adds premium items like Bose Studio Surround Sound, semi-aniline leather seating, a suede-like headliner, power rear sunshade, and more.
While the main attraction of the Q70L 5.6 is the mighty 5.6-liter V8, this trim level adds many features to the 3.7's specifications. These include leather seating, climate-controlled front seats, a heated steering wheel, 10-speaker Bose audio system, in-dash DVD/CD player, Around View Monitor, and front/rear sonar systems. Base price is $64,550.
When fitted with all-wheel drive, the Q70L 5.6 is priced at $67,050.
The Performance Tire and Wheel package, with 20-inch alloy wheels, is available for the 5.6. So is a $7,200 Deluxe Technology package that provides the contents of the 3.7's Deluxe Touring and Technology package, including lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, Bose surround-sound, and much more.
Every feature that’s standard on the Q70L 5.6 is offered as an option on the 3.7 trim level. This makes it possible to purchase the more fuel-efficient Q70L 3.7, and still pack it full of premium features by making careful choices among the available option groups.
