Mercedes-Benz redesigned the M-Class for 2016 and gave it a new name: GLE. It's part of a naming strategy designed to help consumers make sense of an increasingly complex model lineup. In this case, the fact that GLE 300d starts with a "G" means that's it's a crossover or SUV. The "d," meanwhile, indicates turbodiesel power from a BlueTEC engine.
The look is similar to previous model years of the popular M-Class, but a sculpted front end, new bumpers, headlights, taillights, trim combinations and wheels update the SUV. The overall look is a bit sleeker and sportier, which may sacrifice a bit of cargo space, but will still seat five passengers.
The turbocharged 201-horsepower four-cylinder runs on diesel and combines solid acceleration with fuel efficiency. All-wheel drive, an electronically adjustable suspension and a seven-speed transmission enhance the SUV's responsiveness and handling.
The interior has a rich look with wood detailing and other standard conveniences including an 8-inch color screen with Bluetooth, HD radio, heated front seats and a power liftgate. Roof rails and a sunroof are also included in the standard package.

Additional packages that customize the 300d by adding a sportier, more high-end edge include Interior and Exterior Sport Packages with sports seats, AMG styling and wheels, the mBrace Package with remote access and app connectivity and a Lighting Package with upgraded LED lamps.
Features like a panoramic roof, rear entertainment system, premium sound systems by Harmon Kardon and Bang & Olufsen, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and in-car WiFi can be added à la carte.
The entire GLE line offers a sizable list of options that can float the price skyward quickly. Luckily, the standard GLE300d comes with luxurious appointments making it close to perfect.
