    2016 Nissan Murano OVERVIEW

A mix of practicality and style, the Murano remains the most dramatic-looking midsize crossover you can buy. Step inside and you'll find a polished interior with just as much as space as comparatively boxy vehicles.

    What's New for 2016

Redesigned just last year, the Murano rolls into 2016 unchanged.

    Choosing Your Nissan Murano

The most pleasant surprise about the Murano is that its futuristic styling doesn't come at the expense of interior room. You get a hefty 39.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, and nearly 70 cubic feet with it folded. Five adults can fit comfortably in the Murano's "Zero Gravity" seats, which provide excellent support for long trips. Overall interior design and quality are a cut above what most buyers expect in this price class.

The sole engine is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 260 horsepower, matched to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All models can be equipped with all-wheel drive in place of the standard front-drive setup. Despite the Murano's size and V6 engine, it achieves a laudable 24 mpg in combined driving.

As before, the Murano is available in four trim levels:

Comes with all the expected equipment for this class, including a rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone and audio, and a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio and integrated smartphone apps. The available Navigation package adds a navigation system, HD radio, and an iPod interface.

Gets the Navigation package as standard, plus power front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof rails, and foglamps. The SV's available Premium package adds a panoramic sunroof and a nine-speaker Bose sound system.

Builds on the SV with leather upholstery, heated front seats with driver memory, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated side mirrors, ambient interior lighting, and a power liftgate. Safety gets a boost from a surround-view camera system, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Bose sound system is also standard. The available Technology package tops off the SL with a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise controls, and front collision warning with automatic braking.

Adds exclusives touches like ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, a power-adjustable heated steering wheel, LED headlamps, and 20-inch wheels. The rear seat gets a power return function. The Technology package continues as an option.

    CarsDirect Tip

The Murano's classy interior begs for leather seats, which require an upgrade to the SL trim level. Considering everything else you get with the SL, it's our pick for best value.
