For decades, the Big Three have dominated the commercial vehicle market within the States. Enter the Nissan NV1500, a versatile commercial vehicle that excels at utility and hauling. With a long, wide cargo floor, square-top wheel-well housings and nearly vertical sidewalls, the NV Cargo offers 234 cubic feet of cargo space, a towing capacity of up to 7,000 pounds, and a compelling price in its class.
What's New for 2016
Changes for the 2016 NV1500 are minor but include the addition of supplemental front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and roof-mounted curtain side-impact airbags as standard. A new exterior color, Cayenne Red, is also available.
Choosing Your Nissan NV1500
There aren’t a whole lot of options to take into consideration when selecting an NV1500. It comes in two trim levels, the S and the SV, both of which are powered by the same 261-horsepower 4-liter V6 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Both models are rear-wheel drive and only with a single roof height.
S
Standard equipment for the base model S includes 17-inch wheels, 57 reinforced cargo mounting points, 6 floor mounting points, 10 roof rack mounting points, a passenger-side sliding door, water-repellent vinyl seat surfaces, fold-down passenger’s seat, halogen headlights, air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD audio system with two speakers, and seat-mounted driver and front passenger side-impact supplemental air bags.
Available optional packages include Rear Door Glass and Sliding Door Glass, which add windows with privacy glass to the selected areas. A Power Basic package is also available. This adds power windows, power locks, cruise control, and remote keyless entry.
SV
The SV trim upgrades from the S by adding the features available in the Power Basic package including power door locks, keyless entry, power windows and outside mirrors, cruise control, and steering wheel-mounted controls. It also adds rear sonar, pre-wiring for electrical upfitting, variable intermittent windshield wipers, a multi-functional trip computer, 4-way manual driver and passenger seats, MP3/WMA CD playback capability, AUX input, and a 4-speaker audio system. Also available is a Technology Package that adds navigation, SiriusXM, USB port, Bluetooth compatibility, and rearview monitor.
The S is built to be a bare-bones commercial vehicle and is more than capable as is. However, once you start adding options to it you would more than likely be better served by moving up to the SV. With many useful features already part of the package, the SV offers a lot of value and niceties for the mere $1,000 price difference. We feel like it’s a no-brainer.
