Nissan's full-size Titan series receives its first complete overhaul this year with emphasis on capability, refinement, and safety technology. Part of the renaissance is the new XD model, which fills the gap between light-duty pickups and thirstier, more expensive heavy-duty rigs.
What's New for 2016
The Nissan XD is an all-new model.
Choosing Your Nissan Titan XD
The XD benefits from all the improvements bestowed on the regular Titan, including an infinitely more refined interior and smoother on-road manners, plus a beefier frame and turbodiesel power. The Cummins-supplied 5-liter V8 puts out 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, enough to permit the XD to tow up to 12,300 pounds or carry 2,091 pounds in back. A specially designed six-speed automatic transmission comes standard, and four-wheel drive is available or standard on all variants. Note that a 5.6-liter gasoline V8 will join the roster later in the year.
The Titan XD comes only as a crew cab with four full-size doors and seating for up to six. Despite all the changes, trim levels are basically the same as previous years:
The SV can be tailored to meet a variety of personal and work needs, and remains the best choice for mixed use.
