The Subaru WRX STI takes the WRX up a notch on the performance scale, bringing it even closer to its rallying roots. It's a track car that happens to incorporate similarities to a regular compact sedan, with four doors, seating for five and a modest trunk. But it still is an all-weather turbocharged monster when you encourage it to go faster.

2016 Subaru WRX STI Overview

What's New for 2016
For 2016, the STI Limited can be had with a low-profile rear spoiler instead of the large wing that comes standard on that model. Limited models also get new safety features in the form of blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as keyless entry and start. Subaru's new Starlink infotainment system is now standard across the entire lineup, as is a backup camera.
Choosing Your Subaru WRX STI
The WRX STI comes with one powertrain: a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 305 horsepower mated to a six-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Therefore, the choice is really limited to the base or Limited trims, which differ on equipment and some appearance details.
Base
The WRX STI includes 18-inch alloy wheels, Brembo performance brakes, selectable drive modes for the all-wheel drive and traction controls, and a specially tuned sport suspension, as well as the usual power amenities, six-speaker audio system with 6.2-inch touchscreen, backup camera, satellite radio, USB input, Alcantara upholstery with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control.
The Navigation Package includes a 7-inch touchscreen with 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio and keyless entry and start.
Limited
The Limited adds convenience features and other niceties to the standard car in the form of leather upholstery, 18-inch BBS wheels, an eight-way power driver's seat, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with 7-inch touchscreen navigation and keyless entry and start.
Make no mistake, this is a performance car, so don't go looking for much in the way of luxury in the Limited trim. It adds some niceties that make the WRX STi more livable every day, but not that nice to make its nearly $40,000 price tag worth it. Stick with the base car.
