One of largest vehicles you can buy, the Sequoia is every inch a traditional SUV. You get uncompromising room, power, and off-road capability in a family-friendly package that's at once inviting and intimidating.
Last year's Sport package has been dropped.
If the Sequoia looks huge to you, that's because it is. You get room for eight passengers and up to 120 cubic feet of cargo space, a lot even for a full-size SUV. The second row is split into three sections that slide and recline independently, and even the third row reclines.
Motivation comes from a 5.7-liter V8 engine that develops 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The available four-wheel drive system features low-range gearing and a locking limited-slip center differential for true off-road ability. Towing capacity maxes out at 7,400 pounds. All models carry a six-speed automatic transmission.
As in previous years, the Sequoia is offered in SR5, Limited, and Platinum trim levels:
Includes an enormous array of comfort and convenience features, including a power driver seat, a sunroof, a rearview camera, tri-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone and audio, a power rear window, rear sunshades, and an eight-speaker sound system with satellite and HD radio. On the functional side of things, you get foglamps, wiper de-icers, 18-inch alloy wheels, running boards, and towing preparation. The available Premium package adds leather seating, heated front seats with passenger power, and a power-folding and reclining third row.
Gets the SR5's Premium package as standard, plus 20-inch wheels, extended leather trim, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, a power liftgate, and a navigation system with integrated smartphone apps and a larger touchscreen. Optional on the Limited are a 14-speaker JBL sound system and a rear Blu-ray entertainment system.
Tops off the Sequoia with an adaptive air suspension, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a power-adjustable steering wheel. Comfort upgrades include ventilated front seats, expanded driver seat controls, driver memory settings, and a revised second row with heated captain's chairs and a center console.
There are no further options for the Sequoia beyond the usual dealer-installed accessories.
The SR5's $4,070 Premium package doesn't make much sense to us. You can get all that and a great deal more by simply upgrading to the Limited.
