2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country Overview

The 2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country is currently the only crossover compact sedan on the market, with 500 slated for US import. The luxury midsize model looks like a beefy sedan on steroids. The interior is almost identical to the S60, but it’s a hybrid of the popular crossover vehicle and standard sedan, offering trunk space instead of cargo area.

What's New for 2016

This model and class is all new. It’s built for drivers who prefer sedans to SUVs but may frequently drive in challenging pavement where height clearance and all-wheel drive functionality is necessary.

The ride height is taller than the standard S60, with 7.9 inches of ground clearance for off-pavement excursions and all-weather enjoyment. Yet the S60 Cross Country is small enough to navigate and park in a small garage or busy city location.

A newly-designed honeycomb grill, skid and scuff pads are some of the new appearance features. Behind the scenes an advanced all-wheel drive system, under-carriage protection, torque vectoring technology and corner traction control make the drive nimble and responsive, regardless of terrain.

Choosing Your Volvo S60 Cross Country

Volvo S60 Cross Country

The standard, 28-mpg, T5 turbocharged 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine, produces 250 horsepower with 266 pound-feet of torque, with 0 to 60 mph in under seven seconds. A smooth, six-speed automatic with sport mode transfers power to the wheels.

Volvo does not shortcut the interior and it never has. Standard leather seats are particularly notable for their comfort. The 160 watt, 8-speaker audio system will impress every audiophile. Other standard features include hands-free BlueTooth, a multi-function sport steering wheel, dual-zone electronic climate control, power eight-way adjustable driver seat and Volvo’s infotainment system, Sensus Connect, comes with an integrated seven-inch color display in the dashboard.

Options include speed sensitive steering, rear-seat entertainment, a blind spot system with parking assist, sport pedals and an upgraded climate package that includes heated front and rear seats. Optional 19-inch wheels enhance ride comfort and wheel protection against road hazards like potholes.

CarsDirect Tip

The standard package is perfectly comfortable, with plenty of technology and safety features for any driver. If one does live in areas of long, rough weather or unpaved roads, pair the climate package for heated seats and the larger wheel/tire option to improve handling and all-weather ride comfort.
