2017 Dodge Viper OVERVIEW

Get out the checkered flag. Dodge's celebrated hyper-performance Viper is on it's last lap through showrooms. If you've always wanted to harness this outrageous V10 powerhouse, buy now or forever hold your peace.

What's New for 2017

Several limited-production models have been added to the Viper lineup, including the exotic VooDoo II and Snakeskin editions. Alas, they all sold out within hours of their introduction. The rest of the line remains available in the same trim levels as last year.

Choosing Your Dodge Viper

While the Viper has become more civilized over the years, it's still a raucous specimen by today's standards. The massive 8.4-liter V10 engine deliver 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels, enough to take the Viper from zero to 60 mph in about 3.3 seconds. A six-speed manual is the only transmission offered.

Highway efficiency now stands at 21 mpg, which isn't a chief concern of the target market, but laudable in a car like this. All models get summer performance tires and a three-stage stability control system. Like most supercars, the Viper is strictly a two-seater, but the trunk measures just over 14 cubic feet, the same as some family sedans.

As before, the Viper is available in five trim levels:

SRT

Comes equipped with features like navigation, keyless ignition, a rearview camera, power-adjustable pedals, and cloth sport seats with faux suede inserts. You also get a 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system with satellite radio. The SRT rides on 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels.

GT

Gets a racier-looking hood, beefier brakes, a two-mode suspension system, and a taller 6th gear ratio. Inside are leather seats with power driver adjustments.

GTC

Adds a five-mode stability control system and an extended leather interior with gunmetal trim.

GTS

Like the GTC, but with 19-inch front wheels and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon system.

ACR

Comes ready for the track with upgraded tires, carbon ceramic brakes, a firmer suspension with ten selectable settings, and manually adjustable springs. A large carbon fiber rear wing and front splitter assist with aerodynamics. To reduce weight, the ACR comes with minimal sound insulation, manual seats, and a basic three-speaker stereo.

All models are available with a vast array of wheels, stripes, color schemes, and aerodynamic add-ons. In fact, Dodge claims there are millions of possible configurations for the Viper.

CarsDirect Tip

All 2017 Vipers are likely to become collectible, and demand has been rather extraordinary. Whichever model you have in mind, we recommend placing an order ASAP. Most models will be pre-sold before they even hit the dealer.
