2017 Ford Transit-150 Overview
What's New for 2017
Last year saw the addition of Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system and a standard rearview camera. For the 2017 model year, the Transit 150 gains optional heated driver and passenger seats and power-retractable running boards for easier entry and exit.
Enhanced LED lighting has been added in the cargo area for easier loading and unloading. A 12-volt power point in the D-pillar is now standard, perfect for recharging tools or plugging in computers. The base sound system has also been upgraded.
Choosing Your Ford Transit 150
Ford’s versatile van can be had in myriad configurations, from rock-bare work van to plush passenger liner with seating for up to ten. Buyers will want to consider what the primary use of the van will be when making a choice.
Two wheelbases and body lengths are available, as well as two roof heights: low and medium. (The Transit 250 and 350, discussed separately, offer an extended body length and high roof.) A sliding passenger side door is standard, while dual sliding doors are optional.
- The base 3.7-liter V6 has 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque on tap, which should be adequate for most uses. A CNG/propane prep package is available from the factory, making this engine even more economical.
- The next step up the range is the lauded 3.5-liter EcoBoost with 310 horsepower and an extraordinary 400 pound-feet of torque. Twin turbos are mated to direct fuel injection to deliver the power low in the rev range.
- For heavy-duty use like extended running time or constant stop-and-go driving, a 3.2-liter inline five-cylinder turbodiesel is available with 185 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.
All Transit engines are mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox with Ford’s Select Shift feature. SelectShift allows either automatic operation or clutch-less manual shifting.
Will your Transit 150 be doing a lot of towing? Invest in the 3.2-liter five-cylinder. The added torque and rugged nature of the diesel is likely to ensure years of trouble-free service. The 3.73 rear axle ratio offers the most towing capacity.
