Under the INFINITI QX70's hood is a 3.7-liter V6 that produces an impressive 325 horsepower and is paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is good but not great, rated by the EPA at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg out on the highway. Rear-wheel drive is standard; optional all-wheel drive pushes the base price up to $47,650.
Other standard equipment includes aluminum alloy wheels, HID bi-functional xenon headlights and a moonroof. You'll also find dual-zone automatic temperature control system, leather-appointed seating, a rearview monitor, and push-button ignition.
The QX70 comes only in one trim level, but four major packages let you tailor the car to your tastes:
- Premium Package:This $4,300 package adds a host of safety and convenience features such as navigation with real-time traffic information, and an around-view monitor with moving object detection that uses four cameras to provide 360-degree visibility. Dual occupant memory seats, voice recognition, an 11-speaker Bose audio system and aluminum roof rails are also included in this package. The Premium Package offers excellent value for the upgrades included.
- Sports Package:The Sports package comes in at $3,550 and gives the QX70 a more sporty look with a unique front grille, side air vents, dark headlights, roof rails and upgraded tailgate trim. The Sport look is completed with 21-inch dark-finish wheels. Inside, it adds contrast-stitched sport-style front and rear seats, and a dark headliner and pillars. Aluminum pedals and magnesium paddle shifters give the QX70 a true sports car look, and climate-controlled front seats ensure comfort while tackling a curvy highway. Important note: You can only get the Sports Package as an add-on to the Premium Package.
- Limited Package:The Limited Package is a bit pricey at $5,000 and also requires the Premium Package, so you are looking at close to $10,000 if you also want exterior upgrades like a stainless steel rear bumper protector, 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, body-color side air vents, dark-finish taillights and high-contrast door trim. It also comes with contrast interior stitching, aluminum pedals, climate controlled front seats, and deep-pillow quilting on the center armrest. We think it's a bit pricey for what you get.
- Technology Package:This package will set you back $3,350 and requires the Premium and Sports package but it does offer a variety of cool safety and convenience features. Technology upgrades include intelligent cruise control, intelligent brake assist and forward collision warning, which can help determine if a collision is imminent and will automatically engage the brakes to reduce speed and hopefully avoid the collision if the driver doesn’t respond to visual and audible warnings. This package also adds rain-sensing front windshield wipers, lane departure warning and lane departure prevention. Adaptive front lighting system with auto-leveling headlights will make sure the road ahead is always illuminated.
While pricing starts at $45,850, the various packages can quickly up the cost of your QX70. It almost goes without saying that the Premium Package should be added since it adds some great technology and convenience features at a fairly reasonable price. In addition, it is required for any other packages you may want to add. We would recommend adding the Technology Package but giving the Limited Package a miss due to its high price.
