For decades, the Big Three domestic automakers have dominated the commercial vehicle market within the United States. Since 2011, though, Nissan has offered the NV1500, a versatile commercial vehicle that excels at utility and hauling. With a long, wide cargo floor, square-top wheel-well housings and nearly vertical sidewalls, the NV Cargo provides 234 cubic feet of cargo space, a towing capacity of up to 7,000 pounds, and a compelling price in the cargo-carrying class.
What's New for 2017
Little has changed on the 2017 NV1500, which retains its V6 powertrain. Nissan also offers heavier-duty NV2500 and NV3500 versions, available with a new, more powerful V8 and seven-speed automatic transmission.
Choosing Your Nissan NV1500
Not many decisions need to be made when selecting an NV1500. It comes in two trim levels, S and SV, each powered by the same 261-horsepower 4-liter V6 engine, producing 281 pound-feet of torque, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Both models have rear-wheel drive and come a single roof height.
S
Standard equipment for the base S model includes 17-inch steel wheels, a passenger-side sliding door, water-repellent vinyl seat surfaces, a folding passenger seat, halogen headlights, air conditioning, and an AM/FM/CD audio system with two speakers. Seat-mounted driver and front passenger side-impact supplemental air bags are standard. For ultimate cargo-carrying versatility, 57 reinforced cargo mounting points are installed, along with 6 floor mounting points and 10 roof-rack mounting points. Pricing starts at $28,925 (destination charge included).
An optional Rear Door Glass package adds rear windows with privacy glass. A $650 Power Basic package is also available. This adds power windows, power locks, cruise control, and remote keyless entry.
SV
For an additional $990, the SV trim comes standard with the Power Basic package, plus rear parking sensors, pre-wiring for electrical upfitting, variable intermittent windshield wipers, a trip computer, additional seat adjustments, and a four-speaker audio system. Also available is an $1,100 Technology package that adds navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, a USB port, Bluetooth compatibility, and rearview monitor.
The S version is fully capable as is, but if you want to add some options, we recommend going to straight to the SV. It comes standard with a whole bundle of useful upgrades for just $990 more.
