Nissan best-selling model, the Rogue now offers buyers the option of hybrid power. The result is a highly efficient version of the brand's hot-selling compact CUV.
What's New for 2017
The Rogue Hybrid is a new addition to the existing Rogue lineup, which gets more sound insulation and minor styling updates.
Choosing Your Nissan Rogue
The Rogue's hybrid setup consists of a gas-powered 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 30-kilowatt electric motor. Combined output is 176 horsepower, a few ponies more than the regular Rogue. A continuously variable automatic transmission delivers power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is a $1,350 option.
The Rogue Hybrid is EPA-rated at 34 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving, or 33 mpg with all-wheel drive. For comparison, the gas model is rated at 29 mpg combined, or 27 mpg with all-wheel drive.
The rear-mounted battery pack reduces cargo capacity somewhat, but it's still acceptable at 61.4 cubic feet. The rear seat slides and reclines to help balance out the space. However, there's not enough room for the gas model's optional third row. The hybrid is strictly a five-seater.
The Rogue Hybrid doesn't get the same plethora of trims and option groups as the gas-powered Rogue, relying instead on a base SV trim for $27,180 (including $940 destination charge) and a more premium SL, for $32,100.
When equipped with the Premium Package, the SV carries an impressive array of equipment for the price. It's the better for value for buyers who can live without leather seats.
