  • 2017 Nissan Titan XD Overview

One year removed from its grand introduction, the 2017 Nissan Titan XD welcomes a gasoline engine to the model line. The crew cab will soon be followed by a regular cab model. The Titan XD is unique as it fills the white space between light- and heavy-duty full-size pickup trucks.

    What's New for 2017

Nissan continues to expand its truck offerings, adding a gasoline engine for 2017. Now, customers have a choice of a turbo-diesel or a newly updated 5.6-liter V8 engine. Both engines are paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Marketed separately, the second-generation Nissan Titan also debuts. This model is based on a separate ladder frame than the Titan XD and begins the second generation for Nissan’s full-size, light-duty pickup truck.

    Choosing Your Nissan Titan XD

Nissan is gradually rolling out its Titan XD truck, saving the gasoline engine for last. Buyers now have a choice of two engines: a Cummins-supplied turbo-diesel 5.0-liter, V8 is one choice — it makes 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque. It has a towing capacity of up to 12,000 pounds. No fuel economy rating is published.

Also available is an all-new, 5.6-liter V8 gasoline engine making 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque. This model has a towing capacity ranging from 9,800 to 11,260 pounds. Like the turbo-diesel, no fuel economy rating is published.

Nissan prices the 2017 Titan XD S gasoline model from $36,290 for the 4x2 and $39,320 for the 4x4. Choose the turbo-diesel and you’ll pay $41,340 for the 4x2 and $44,370 for the 4x4.

This model comes with 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, manual folding side mirrors, rear cab-mounted bed lights, and fixed cargo bed tie downs. You’ll also find keyless entry with push-button start, air conditioning, a 40-20-40 split folding front bench seat, a 60-40 split folding bench seat, a six-speaker audio system, NissanConnect, Bluetooth connectivity, and cruise control. Safety features include a suite of airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system.

This model adds front tow hooks, power heated black manually extendable tow mirrors with turn signal indicators, a trailer brake controller, a Class IV hitch receiver, and an integrated gooseneck hitch receiver. The SV also includes 18-inch silver-painted aluminum-alloy wheels, skid plates on 4x4 models, satellite radio, and trailer sway control.

Nissan prices the PRO-4X gasoline model, offered only as a 4x4, from $47,180. Choose the turbo-diesel and you’ll pay $52,230.

Also included is an eight-way power driver’s seat, an interior 120-volt outlet, a lockable rear seat cargo organizer, rearview monitor, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. This top-end trim comes with 20-inch dark chrome-clad aluminum-alloy wheels, Titan Boxes, premium two-tone leather-appointed seats, and an around-view monitor. The folding side mirrors are power heated and come with integrated turn signal indicators and puddle lamps. You’ll also find a heated steering wheel, climate-controlled front seats, and heated outboard rear seats.

    CarsDirect Tip

A late-available single cab model is on the way, appearing in Nissan showrooms by November 2016. Buyers not needing the robust towing capacity of the Titan XD might also consider the standard Titan half-ton pickup truck. Otherwise, a gasoline-powered Titan XD SV 4x4 may offer many of the features you need for under $45,000.
