The Corolla iM is four-door hatchback with 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, which is typical for this class. Power comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that produces 137 horsepower, matched to a six-speed manual or available continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The manual produces snappier acceleration and achieves 31 mpg in combined city and highway driving. The CVT is rated a tick higher at 32 mpg.
Owing to its Scion roots, the Corolla iM comes a single, well-equipped trim level. All examples come with keyless ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated power-folding side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a rearview camera. The six-speaker sound system features HD and Internet radio, Bluetooth phone and audio, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Navigation can be added to the system as an upgrade. Outside are 17-inch alloy wheels and LED running lights.
Now that the iM is a proper Toyota, it comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense C, which furnishes lane departure warning, collision mitigation, and automatic high beams.
There are no option packages for the iM, but a wide range of small add-ons are available. You can choose from ambient interior lighting, body and interior protection items, and performance upgrades like a heavy-duty air filter and stiffer suspension components.
If you're comfortable with shifting yourself, by all means stick with the standard manual transmission. Performance with the CVT can be sluggish, and yet it only delivers a 1 mpg benefit.
