The Volvo S60 Inscription adds three additional inches between the wheels over the standard S60. Introduced in 2016, this entry-level premium sedan offers standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive.
Formally known as the Volvo S60 T5 Inscription, this sedan is offered in four model ranges. You’ll find acceptable room for five and excellent space for four here.
What's New for 2017
Volvo eliminated the previously available five-cylinder engine for 2017. This year, there's only one powertrain: a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Previously used terms such as Premier and Drive-E are no longer in use. When shopping this model, T5 Inscription and T5 Inscription Platinum are employed. Overall, base prices are slightly lower for 2017, although Platinum editions are now a $4,000 upgrade when they previously had a $3,000 surcharge.
Choosing Your Volvo S60 Inscription
Besides front- and all-wheel drive configurations, there are four model ranges to consider. Standard and Platinum ranges are ascribed to each drivetrain choice.
The 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive models make an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. All-wheel drive versions take a sizable fuel efficiency hit, making 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
Three package choices are available: climate, BLIS, and park assist. The climate package ($1,300) adds heated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated windshield wiper nozzles. The BLIS package ($925) brings in a blind spot information system and cross traffic alert, front and rear park assist, and a lane change merge aid. Park assist with BLIS ($1,425) adds park assist to the standard BLIS package.
We like Volvo’s safety features and are inclined to recommend the Platinum models for this reason alone. If you don’t need the extra rear seat room the stretched-wheelbase series affords, the standard S60 will save you nearly $4,000. You can then use those savings to choose various technology and vision package upgrades.
