2017 Volvo S90 OVERVIEW

Volvo's all-new flagship sedan, the S90 represents a leap forward in the brand's passenger car philosophy. While the safety and quality you expect are here, it's the athletic styling and inner elegance that mark the S90 as a new kind of Volvo.

What's New for 2017

The S90 is a new edition to the Volvo lineup, replacing the slow-selling S80.

Choosing Your Volvo S90

While the S90 competes in the midsize luxury segment, it's still the largest Volvo sedan you can buy and is incrementally longer, wider, and lower than its predecessor. Much of the S90's mechanical setup and interior design is borrowed from the full-size XC90 crossover.

The S90 starts out with front-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder that produces 240 horsepower. The available turbocharged and supercharged version of the 2-liter achieves 316 horsepower and comes exclusively with all-wheel drive. A 400-horsepower hybrid setup will arrive later in the year as the top engine choice. All models use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment includes Volvo's sophisticated Pilot Assist, a semi-autonomous driving system that can brake, accelerate, and steer where lane markings are clearly visible to car's cameras. The system works at speeds up to 81 mph.

The S90's trim levels correspond to the drivetrain:

Gets the base 2-liter and front-wheel drive, plus leather upholstery, driver memory, wood interior trim, a sunroof, navigation, satellite radio, and power-folding rear headrests. The extensive list of safety technology includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, rear parking sensors, and front collision mitigation with automatic braking. The available Convenience package adds an automated parking system, a universal garage door opener, and a power trunk lid. The Climate package tacks on heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated washer nozzles. Finally, the Vision package gives you blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, power-folding mirrors with auto-dimming features, and surround-view cameras.

T5 Inscription

Carries a more luxurious interior with extended Nappa leather trim, heated and ventilated front seats with extra adjustments, four-zone climate control, and a cooled glovebox. All options packages continue.

Comes with the 316-horsepower 2-liter engine and all-wheel drive. Equipment and packages mirror those of the T5, except heated front seat are standard and an adaptive air suspension is available.

T6 Inscription

Combines the T6 drivetrain with the Inscription interior upgrades.

All models are eligible for a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkens surround-sound system.

CarsDirect Tip

We're glad to see that the S90's option packages are available throughout the lineup. In other words, you don't have to upgrade to an Inscription model to access all the functionality the S90 has to offer.
