2018 Audi RS 3 Overview

Tim Charlet
Automotive Editor - February 12, 2018

If the Audi A3 and R8 were to have an offspring, they would spawn the Audi RS 3. The 2018 Audi RS 3 starts at $55,875 (which includes a $975 destination charge) and delivers functionality and performance that has been specifically engineered for US consumers. Powered by Audi’s unique turbocharged, inline five-cylinder engine and packed with multiple safety systems, the RS 3 is a well-balanced vehicle that would be an exceptional sports sedan for any consumer.

What's New for 2018

2018 marks the first year of full distribution throughout the United States, meaning there are no new changes to report.

Choosing Your Audi RS 3

A high-performance version of the A3 and S3, the RS 3 is available to US consumers in a single trim. This quick and nimble sports sedan is powered by a 2.5-liter, turbocharged five-cylinder engine that produces 400 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission supplies power to the standard all-wheel drive system. The 2018 RS 3 returns an EPA-estimated 19 miles per gallon city, 28 mpg highway, and rides on 19-inch alloy wheels.

The 2018 Audi RS 3 is loaded with standard features including heated and power-folding mirrors, a sunroof, selectable driving modes, a keyless entry and ignition system, automatic LED headlights, a dual-zone climate control system, an adaptive suspension system, and eight-way manual front seats that are heated.

In the rear, a set of 40/20/40-split rear folding seats offer five-passenger seating and can be folded down to fit larger items in the trunk. The standard technology package includes a 10-speaker audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a standard rearview camera, and USB ports.

The 2018 Audi RS 3 can be improved significantly by adding any of the six available packages. The Dynamic Plus Package will cost consumers an additional $4,800 but will add a carbon-fiber engine cover, an RS fixed sports suspension package, front ceramic brakes, and a 174-mph top speed. The Black Optic Package adds gloss black-painted exterior trims, mirrors, wheels, and a rear spoiler for an additional $1,300. The RS Design Package upgrades the RS 3 with Leatherette-covered armrests, an interior storage package that includes two-USB ports and a 12-volt outlet for rear seats for $1,000.

A Technology Package is also available to RS 3 consumers for an additional $3,200 which adds Audi’s navigation system, a wifi hotspot, Audi Virtual Cockpit (a 12.3-inch display that replaces the standard gauge cluster), a six-month subscription to Audi Connect, and an upgraded Bang and Olufsen sound system. The Driver Assistance Package will cost consumers $1,400 and comes with adaptive cruise control, an active lane assist system, and a front radar system. Finally, the Dynamic Package costs $1,450 and offers 19-inch titanium wheels, red brake calipers, and a sport exhaust system.

CarsDirect Tip

Grab the Technology and Black Optic packages for a stylish RS 3 both inside and out, and without adding too much to the already expensive base price. If performance is all you care about, the Dynamic and Dynamic Plus Packages are obvious choices. The more affordable entry's sport exhaust system gives owners the choice of two volume settings for the quad-tipped unit, allowing a more civilized character in everyday conditions.
