Ready and eager to answer the call of super-performance duty, the ALPINA B6 ranks as the most exclusive member of BMW's 6 Series Gran Coupe family. In virtually every measure of luxury-car excellence, the ALPINA B6 is meticulously tuned—and tailored—to triumph. Credit for this exalted level of exhilarating motoring goes to the hand-builders at ALPINA, the German firm authorized to work aftermarket near-miracles on select BMW models.
What's New for 2017
Like regular members of the 6 Series group, the ALPINA B6 Gran Coupe gets several changes for the 2017 model year. They include upgrading to BMW’s iDrive 5.0 control setup, and adding wireless charging and a wi-fi hotspot. Smartphone integration no longer is offered, because its functionality is part of wireless charging.
Choosing Your ALPINA B6 Gran Coupe
Although the ALPINA B6 wears the same fastback four-door body as other Gran Coupes, nearly every mechanical system has been upgraded to ensure maximum performance. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 whips up a mighty 600 horsepower, versus a maximum of 560 in other applications—notably, the M6 Gran Coupe.
Exclusive ALPINA tuning extends to the adaptive suspension, exhaust system, and eight-speed automatic transmission. Larger brakes and standard all-wheel drive are also part of the ALPINA experience.
For a spacious four-seater, the B6 is stunningly swift, capable of hitting 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and able to reach a track speed of 200 mph. Fuel economy is estimated at 15 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway.
The ALPINA B6 rolls on specific 20-inch light alloy wheels with summer performance tires, and includes special blue-illuminated instrumentation, along with a host of interior trim upgrades. Buyers may select from a richly diverse palette of premium leathers and woods. Nappa leather upholstery is standard.
As expected for a line-topping model, the B6 is bountifully equipped. Standard comforts and conveniences include multi-contour 20-way power front seats with heat and memory, power-folding and auto-dimming outside mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, navigation with real-time traffic data, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system.
Even for its $122,500 starting price, the ALPINA B6 doesn’t include everything a buyer might need or want. For enhanced safety, the Driver Assistance Plus package ($1,700) adds a lane-departure warning, forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, surround-view cameras, and speed limit information. Adaptive cruise control also can be added.
To burnish the luxury element even further, an Executive package ($3,200) includes massaging and ventilated front seats, power rear sunshade and rear side window shades, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, head-up display, and ceramic-finish controls. You can also add a Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system ($3,700), as well as Night Vision with pedestrian detection ($2,300).
The ALPINA B6 Gran Coupe is a hand-finished vehicle available only by special order. Naturally, such exclusivity is a prominent part of its appeal. Be prepared to wait up to three months for delivery. ALPINA also creates an ALPINA B7, based upon the full-size 7 Series sedan.
