There is nothing subtle about the BMW M6, a powerful convertible or four-door Gran Coupe in this automaker’s high-performance M range. Its 6-Series bones combine with BMW Motorsport heritage to deliver the best blend of BMW luxury and consummate performance.
What's New for 2018
The BMW M6 offers no changes for 2018. BMW discontinued the hardtop M6 Coupe.
Choosing Your BMW M6
BMW offers the M6 Gran Coupe Convertible and Gran Coupe (listed separately) each in one grade. Both are rear-wheel drive only models.
The 2018 M6 has a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine generating 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The M6 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering an EPA-estimated 15 city miles per gallon and 22 highway.
Priced from $124,595, including a $995 destination charge and the $1,300 gas guzzler tax, the M6 Convertible at least comes with a long list of features.
Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic headlights, retractable high-intensity headlight washers, power-folding and heated side mirrors, a carbon fiber composite roof panel (on hardtop models), a quad-tip exhaust system, and 20-inch light alloy wheels set within high-performance run-flat tires. The M6 also has a full leather interior with Merino leather upholstery and door trim, adaptive cruise control, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a navigation system with a 10.2-inch high-resolution screen.
Although extremely well equipped, the 2018 M6 offers several upgrades beginning with six BMW Individual paints costing $1,950 or $3,600, and requiring additional build time. Three wheel choices are a no extra cost option. A fourth wheel choice with the convertible requires opting for the Competition Package.
Convertible models offer three roof color options at no extra cost.
The available $8,300 Competition Package ups output by 40 horsepower, adds special wheels, upgrades the sport suspension system, and brings in black chrome tailpipes. A $3,800 Executive Package adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, a power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades.
For $1,700, shoppers can add a Driver Assistance Package, supplying improving rear backup support and parallel parking assistance. A $500 Parking Assistance Package supplies expanded camera view along with park distance control.
Buyers also have a choice of 13 types of leathers, including six special types of leathers with an Anthracite Alcantara headliner costing $3,500 or $5,000. Five wood choices, including three BMW Individual options costing $1,080 each are also available.
Individual options include M Carbon Ceramic Brakes ($9,250), the M Driver’s Package for a one-day high-performance driving school ($2,500), Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection ($2,300), and Active Blind Spot Detection ($500).
The death of the M6 Coupe means the M6 is automatically a less dynamic vehicle for 2018. Pass on the pricey competition package and grab the comfort-focused Executive Package instead, and enjoy a quick, comfortable two-door convertible.
