If the Ford F-150 and F-250 are too small for your pickup truck needs, then you're in luck. Ford makes the gargantuan F-350 Super Duty for those who need a vehicle that can haul almost anything. Weighing in at almost four tons, the F-350 makes no apologies for its size, and the available options and trim levels run the gamut between utilitarian work trucks and full-on luxury vehicles.
What's New for 2018
For 2018, Ford has added the Limited trim level to the top of the Super Duty range.
Choosing Your Ford F-350 Super Duty
The 2018 Ford F-350 can be had in a wide number of configurations to meet your needs. The truck comes standard with a 6.2-liter V8 with 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, which is enough for most towing jobs. For really heavy loads, a 6.7-liter turbodiesel is available with 440 horsepower and up to 935 pound-feet of torque, allowing the F-350 to tow up to 32,000 pounds when properly equipped. This diesel engine is available on all trim levels, and adds $8,995 to the cost. Gas engine-equipped trucks can be equipped with a $315 CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package to allow the use of either unleaded gasoline, compressed natural gas, or propane (although this option does not include the extra fuel tanks and lines).
F-350s are also available in a variety of configurations. Buyers have the choice of equipping their F-350 as a four-door Crew Cab on all trim levels, a regular cab on the XL and XLT, and an extended cab with two rear half doors (which Ford calls “SuperCab”) on the XL, XLT, and Lariat trims. Buyers can also choose between a 6.75-foot or an eight-foot box. Regular cab F-350s come with the eight-foot box, while other cab options come standard with the smaller box, but although the longer bed is available for $200 more. Four-wheel drive is also available at all trim levels, as well as dual-rear wheels for extra heavy loads.
There are an incredibly large number of options that exist across the trim levels, such as an extra-heavy duty alternator, heavy service front suspension, the Camper Package, and the 10,000 GVWR Package for extra heavy towing.
The F-350 Super Duty is available in six trim levels:
CarsDirect Tip
The F-350 Super Duty can be outfitted to meet the needs of any type of customer, from a frugal commercial fleet-manager to a wealthy private individual who wants to use it both on the ranch and around town. That makes the selection of options an extremely subjective matter – consider your needs very carefully while configuring your F-350. Will you tow? What will you tow? How? What about attaching a snow plow? Consider all these questions carefully before ticking the many boxes on the F-350.
