What's New for 2018
The Ram ProMaster benefits from some tech features for 2018. Ram’s Uconnect 5.0 system is now standard on the vehicle, with navigation as an optional feature. Integrated Voice Command with Bluetooth is now standard, as well, bringing steering-wheel-mounted audio controls to the interior. A rearview camera is standard throughout the lineup, while the van’s sliding doors are fitted with a window grate with a fixed glass option.
Choosing Your RAM ProMaster
The Ram ProMaster is available in four body styles: cargo van, window van, chassis cab, and cutaway van. There are two available powertrains for the models, which include a 3.6-liter V6 and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four cylinder. The V6 engine generates 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel motor is good for 174 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and is matched to a six-speed automated manual gearbox.
As a full-size van, the ProMaster is capable of towing up to 5,100 pounds and has a maximum payload capacity of 4,430 lbs. Front-wheel drive is standard on all ProMaster models, which the automaker claims aids in responsive handling for driving in urban areas. In addition to being able to tackle heavy-duty jobs and being easy to maneuver in tight spots, the ProMaster emphasizes ease of use with a 21-inch floor-to-ground step-in height, available 180-degree front swivel seats, 260-degree rear doors, and up to 49-inch door openings.
Depending on what type of model you spring for, the ProMaster offers up to 463 cubic feet of cargo space and up to 17 cargo securement points.
The ProMaster is available in 15 different trims, broken down into four major body styles:
With 15 different configurations to explore, catering a Ram ProMaster model for your specific needs should be relatively simple. Opting for luxury features is a necessity, as the models are barren from the factory. Swivel seats, while expensive at $595 each, are a worthy upgrade, as are heated seats ($195 for the driver and $145 for the passenger). For drivers planning to operate in cramped urban areas, the ParkSense rear park assist system ($295) is an option that should take some hassle out of parking.
