2018 RAM ProMaster City OVERVIEW

The 2018 Ram ProMaster City is a compact commercial vehicle capable of tackling various business needs. From delivering packages to taking one's work items on the go, the ProMaster City can do it all thanks to its ample cargo space and configurations. It may not be the prettiest commercial vehicle on sale, but with an available 131.7 cubic feet of cargo space and a payload capacity of 1,883 pounds, the compact van can handle tough tasks.

What's New for 2018

Soldiering on for its fourth year, the 2018 ProMaster City carries on mostly unchanged. New features for 2018 include sliding and back door window grates that are now available on Cargo Vans without a partition and the addition of Uconnect 3 with a five-inch touchscreen. Bluetooth and a rearview camera are now standard, as well.

Choosing Your RAM ProMaster City

The ProMaster City is available in two variants: Wagon (passenger) and Tradesman (cargo). Both styles are available with glass, panels, or a combination of both. Both the Wagon and Tradesman variants come with rear and side windows. Consumers that opt for the Tradesman cargo van are treated to two seats, while the Wagon version comes with five seats.

The ProMaster City features a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir engine that generates 178 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. The motor is matched to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The EPA rates the van to get 21 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, resulting in a combined rating of 24 mpg.

Thanks to the ProMaster City's front-wheel-drive layout, the vehicle features a 23.3-inch load floor height, which makes getting large items into and out of the vehicle a breeze. And the 60/40-split rear doors are also helpful when it comes to loading and unloading items.

The Tradesman starts at $25,190 (all prices include the $1,195 destination fee). Standard exterior features on the compact van include 16-inch wheels, black bumpers, and 180-degree rear doors. On the inside, the Tradesman comes with air conditioning, power door locks, cloth seats, a tilt/telescoping steering column, power windows, remote keyless entry, and a four-speaker audio system. Uconnect 3 with a five-inch display and Bluetooth are standard on this year's model, as well.

Available packages for the Tradesman model include the Trailer Tow Group ($435) that adds a four- and seven-pin wiring harness and a class III receiver hitch. The Cargo Partition Package - Window ($495) adds a cargo partition with a window. The Cargo Partition Package - Solid ($400) brings a cargo partition with no window, as its name implies. Lastly, the Rear Wiper/Washer/Defroster Group ($250) does exactly what one would expect with the addition of a rear window defroster and a rear window wiper/washer.

Tradesman SLT

The Tradesman SLT has a starting price of $26,840. The trim adds body-color bumpers, heated and power-adjustable mirrors, premium cloth bucket seats, and navigation as standard. The Tradesman SLT has a lot of the same available packages as the base Tradesman trim. The Lights and Wheels Group ($495) isn't offered on the base trim and includes 16-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, and a wheel center cap.

The Wagon trim starts at $26,290 and comes with a lot of the same features as the Tradesman trim. The Wagon differs from the Tradesman with rear-hinged doors with fixed glass, sliding side doors with vented glass, and 60/40 fold-and-tumble rear seats. Available packages for the Wagon include the Trailer Tow Group ($435) and the Rear Wiper/Washer/Defroster Group ($250).

Wagon SLT

The ProMaster City Wagon SLT carries a starting price tag of $27,940 and shares a lot of its standard features with the Tradesman SLT. Packages for the Wagon SLT include the Trailer Tow Group ($435), Rear Wiper/Washer/Defroster Group ($250), Lights and Wheels Group ($495), and the Popular Equipment Group ($525), which adds second-row power windows, a six-speaker audio system, heated front seats, and sliding doors with power windows.

CarsDirect Tip

For consumers looking for a van that offers a lot of cargo capacity for business purposes, the Tradesman lineup is the ideal choice. Drivers wanting something a little more traditional with seating for five and a large amount of cargo space can opt for the Wagon trims. But those aren't nearly as comfortable to drive or have as many creature comforts as more traditional minivans.
