Model Preview

The Audi e-tron SUV is a roomy, five-passenger midsize SUV, the latest model in the brand’s electrification effort. Audi is now taking orders for a model available in three trims, including a special First Edition model limited to just 999 copies in the United States.

Production begins next year with the first models expected by the second quarter of 2019. A fully refundable $1,000 reservation fee secures a customer’s place on the waiting list.

The new model comes in Premium Plus, Prestige and First Edition trims. Standard features include matrix design headlamps, full LED lighting, 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, illuminated door sills, 12-way power and heated front seats, leather seating surfaces, a 16-speaker audio system, navigation, and Audi side assist with cross-traffic alert.

All models also have an adaptive suspension system and will come with Audi Drive Select, which adjusts ride comfort, steering and other driving functions with settings ranging from comfort to sporty.

The Prestige trim adds power-door closers, upgraded leather, rear window sunshades, individual contour front seats with massage, a head-up display and a driver assistance package. The First Edition model has special Daytona Gray pearl effect paint, orange painted brake calipers, 21-inch black wheels, LED puddle lamps, natural wood inlays and Night Vision Assistant.

Powering this model are a pair of electric motors, which move this SUV from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds. Power is stored inside of a 95-kilowatt battery pack and sent to all four wheels via an electrified version of Audi’s all-wheel-drive system. This vehicle has a 250-mile driving range on the European test cycle, although its actual number will be released by the Environmental Protection Agency next year.

The e-Tron can recharge in approximately nine hours when connected to a 240-volt power outlet. When connected to a super fast charging unit, Audi says this SUV will charge to about 80 percent of its capacity within 30 minutes. Audi is working with Amazon Home Services to supply customers with a 240-volt unit for about $1,000.

Further, the Audi e-Tron SUV can pull up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped with the manufacturer’s available tow package.

Pricing & Release Date

With the first models arriving in Spring 2019, the all-new Audi e-Tron SUV becomes a logical competitor to the Tesla Model X.

Pricing starts at $74,800 for the Premium Plus trim and $81,800 for the Prestige. The limited-edition First Edition model costs from $86,700. Add $995 for the manufacturer’s destination charge.
