2019 Audi S4 OVERVIEW

The 2019 Audi S4 is based on the A4 sedan and receives a thoroughly reworked chassis, a more powerful engine, and sportier styling inside and out. Its newest shape embodies a more angular design theme and looks more far more business-like than the playful rounded design of its former self.

What's New for 2019

The 2019 Audi S4 enters into its second year with increased availability of features on lower trim levels.

Choosing Your Audi S4

The S4 was re-launched in 2018 when it moved to the A4’s new platform. With the update, the S4 also grew in size and extended the list of available technology. The message of being a S model is conveyed through the S Sport lowered suspension, quad-tipped rear exhaust, unique front and rear fascia, and satin-silver exterior trim.

The exterior shape carries typical Audi design features such as a large angular hexagonal grille, a single character line that runs the length of the body side, and plenty of design restraint. The interior is large enough to fit four adults comfortably, while front passengers are held by bolstered sport seats with contrast diamond stitching, S logo embossing, and Alcantara inserts. Matte-brushed aluminum trim and a three-spoke leather steering wheel with paddle-shifters and S badging also convey the sporty theme inside. Audi’s automatic emergency braking system is standard on all trims as are automatic wipers and auto headlights.

The 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine is turbocharged and puts out over 100 horsepower more than the A4’s engine. Audi estimates that the 349 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque (available from 1,370 to 4,500 rpm) will launch the S4 to 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds, no doubt aided by the standard all-wheel drive and the eight-speed automatic transmission’s launch control. A manual transmission isn't available. The singular powertrain setup earns EPA estimates of 21 miles per gallon city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 combined, which is impressive for this capable powertrain.

The S4 comes in three trims:

Premium

The Premium Trim begins at $51,195 (all prices include the $995 destination fee) and features LED signature front lighting, LED taillights, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, and unique 18-inch wheels. The front seats feature heating, 12-way power adjustability, massage functionality, and adjustable bolsters. Three-zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, and a sunroof are also notable standard interior features. Audi equips the base S4 with a seven-inch infotainment display that works with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth, and plays through a 180-watt, 10-speaker audio system.

The Convenience Package is offered for $1,500 and includes proximity entry, driver position memory, SiriusXM satellite radio, and rear pre-collision detection. Unique 19-inch wheels are also available for $800.

Premium Plus

The Premium Plus trim begins at $55,495 and adds the Convenience Package, full LED headlights, auto-dimming and power folding mirrors, and parking sensors. Inside, Audi’s 12.3-inch digital driver display gets a lot of attention while the center display increases in size to 8.3 inches and receives navigation, touchpad input, and Audi connect Prime for six months. The rear passengers feel the love with two USB ports.

The Premium Plus trim also expands the list of available packages. The performance-minded crowd will be interested in the S Sport Package with its adjustable dampers, sport rear differential, and red brake calipers for $2,500. A $1,150 sports-steering system is designed to increase feedback while also easing parking maneuvers. The Black Optic Package exchanges the silver exterior trim for a high-gloss black color and slaps on 19-inch wheels with summer performance tires. Full leather seating can be had for $1,000, but not in combination with the $700 Warm Weather Package, which includes ventilated seats and rear side window shades. The Cold Weather Package is $750 and adds a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. For an improved audio experience, a Bang and Olufsen 755-watt, 19-speaker audio system is available for $950.

Prestige

The Prestige trim is $58,795 and receives additional active safety equipment such as adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, a head-up display, and a surround-view camera system. Thicker side glass hushes the interior so as to not interfere with the standard premium audio system. The remaining optional equipment from the Premium Plus trim is also available in the Prestige.

The Prestige's sole exclusive option pack is the $1,800 Driver Assistance Package, which adds adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and traffic-sign recognition.

CarsDirect Tip

Our recommendation is the Premium Plus trim where the S4’s standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system meets high-tech features and added safety.
