If you're the kind of person who prefers a proven design with a production history instead of a new model, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD is the truck you're looking for. Chevy says the LD stands for "Light Duty," don't think the Silverado is no longer up to the tough stuff. It can still haul heavy things and drive over stuff like the outgoing 2018 model, but you'll know that it's a design that has had most of its quirks worked out.
What's New for 2019
For this generation's final model year, Chevy has greatly simplified the options into three trims. Furthermore, there's only one engine choice, and models are limited to the Double Cab and standard box configuration.
Choosing Your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD
The only engine choice for the Silverado LD is the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine that produces 335 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This power allows the Silverado LD to tow up to 9,400 pounds while also returning up to 15 miles per gallon city, 22 mpg highway, and 17 combined, according to the EPA. Four-wheel drive is optional for $3,900 extra on the WT and LT trims, although it does lower the tow ratings by 200 pounds and impose a one-point penalty to the highway mpg rating.
Unlike the previous year, all Silverado LD models come with a double cab and a standard 6.5-foot box. Common option packages that exist across all trims include the $1,295 Essentials Package which includes a soft-folding tonneau bed cover, all-weather floor liners, and chrome running boards, and the $385 Protection Package which pairs all-weather floor liners and front and rear splash guards. All trim levels also get access to a performance cat-back exhaust ($1,195) and at least a few stylistic option changes like black Bow Tie badges.
Your individual requirements for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD will largely dictate which one you buy, but most people will be set with the LT trim. Of the various packages, we'd recommend sticking with either the Texas Edition or All Star Edition packages which add several useful features that you'd otherwise miss.
