The 2019 Fiat 500L continues to deliver a contemporary design with moderate performance. While it’s marketed as an Italian masterpiece, truth be told, there isn’t a ton to brag about. The Fiat 500L is available in three trims, is 42 percent larger inside than its standard 500 siblings, and can comfortably fit five passengers.
What's New for 2019
The 2019 Fiat 500L arrives at dealerships with a few minor enhancements. First on the list is the addition of a universal garage door opener, standard on the Trekking and Lounge models. Second is the inclusion of a few color options: Bronzo Metallizato (Bronze Metallic) on the Pop trim and Rosso (Red) on the Trekking.
Choosing Your FIAT 500L
Fiat makes selecting a Fiat 500L rather simple. This five-door hatchback can be purchased with Pop, Trekking, and Lounge trims appointments. Each 500L is propelled by a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 160 horsepower and is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive can return an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 combined.
Each 500L includes several standard features across all trims including air conditioning, daytime running lights, Bluetooth connectivity, hill-start assist, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The Electronic Vehicle Information Center is also a Fiat-specific standard item that displays the distance to empty, average fuel economy, outside temperature, service intervals, along with the speedometer and tachometer. A major drawback is the lack of driver-assist safety features in any trim.
The 2019 Fiat 500L offers consumers a bit more cargo room than the standard 500, which makes it a better choice for smaller families. The less-than-stellar fuel economy ratings are something fuel-conscious consumers should take a hard look at before purchasing (as it’s near the bottom of this segment). The Fiat 500L Lounge trim offers the best value in the group.
