The 2019 Ford Shelby GT350 is a thoroughly reworked Mustang tuned for track duty. It’s unique high revving engine engine, specific chassis tuning, and aerodynamics all take inspiration from Ford’s racing programs while available amenities help its performance as a livable daily driver.
What's New for 2019
The Shelby GT350 gains refinements to the chassis controls, improved aerodynamics, and updated interior materials and features for 2019. The Shelby GT350R is unchanged.
Choosing Your Ford Shelby GT350
The Shelby GT350’s powertrain shares little with the Mustang GT. The engine is larger, revs higher, and produces more power, peaking at 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. A strengthened six-speed manual is the only transmission offered, while the rear tires are stickier than before and measure one foot wide. For what it's worth, the Shelby GT350 earns an EPA-estimated 14 miles per gallon city, 21 mpg highway, and 16 combined.
The GT350’s exterior receives extended bumpers, a rear diffuser, and a reshaped rear spoiler for improved aerodynamic performance. On the practical side, the quad exhaust outlets feature electronic valves to lower the engine’s soundtrack to help be a nicer neighbor.
The settings of the adjustable dampers, brake system, and traction control have been revised to make the most of the improved overall grip from the tires and aerodynamics.
Shelby GT350
The Shelby GT350 starts at $60,235 (all prices include the $1,095 destination fee) and includes a host of notable standard features such as LED headlights, hood vents, proximity extry, and 19-inch wheels. The Recaro cloth seats, Alcantara leather steering wheel, and aluminum foot pedals help keep the driver in place and in control. Comfort and technology isn’t forgotten though, with an eight-inch infotainment system, proximity entry with push button start, Track Apps, and dual-zone climate control.
The $2,000 Technology Package includes blind-spot monitoring, mirrors with integrated turn signals, Cobra puddle lights, a 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen audio system, and navigation. The Handling Package is $850 and features adjustable strut top mounts and adds a Gurney flap to the rear spoiler for improved downforce. Leather seats with heat and ventilation can be swapped in for the Recaro seats for $495 and provide greater comfort.
Shelby GT350R
The GT350R begins at $68,230 and features black-painted carbon fiber 19-inch wheels, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, an extended lower front air splitter, red painted brake calipers, and the equipment from the Handling Package. The rear seat is removed to further the power-to-weight ratio though dual-zone air conditioning, but Ford’s latest infotainment system and a nine-speaker audio system are still included. The Technology Package is also still available for the same price, while an exposed carbon fiber instrument panel costs $500.
The 2019 Ford Shelby GT350 is a focused track-day car and as such, it regularly demands compromises when used as a daily-driver. At over $60,000, its value lies in the eyes of the driver.
