Model Preview
For 2018, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid received extensive updates, so save for a few tweaks to its standard features in its Limited trim, the 2019 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will be a carryover model.
Visually, the 2019 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will carry on with all the same visual updates it received in 2018. These updates include a new front fascia, hood, and front fenders that flow better with the signature Hyundai grille. This refresh also included a new rear spoiler and reworked eco wheels. Inside, a new, sportier steering wheel and simplified center stack made up the mild cabin updates. This will all remain the same when the 2019 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid hits showrooms.
The 2019 Hyundai Sonata will also carry on unchanged under its hood. It will continue with its standard 154-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a 51-hp electric motor for a grand total of 193 hp. This power will flow through a six-speed automatic transmission and out to the front wheels to deliver up to an EPA-estimated 40 miles per gallon city, 46 highway, and 42 combined in its SE trim. All other trims will deliver 39 mpg city, 44 highway, and 41 combined.
The 2018 Hyundai Sonata is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ thanks to its top-notch crash-test scores and optional automatic emergency braking. This is one area that will change slightly in the 2019 Sonata Hybrid, as automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and an electronic parking brake, which were all part of the $3,850 Ultimate Package on the 2018 Sonata Limited, will be standard on the 2019 Sonata Hybrid Limited.
Expect a full review closer to launch.
