Kia’s smallest vehicle is the Rio, a subcompact model offered in sedan and hatchback body styles. The 2019 Kia Rio offers good value, a spacious interior, and superior safety scores. But the options list is slim and base models lack the active safety tech features available elsewhere.
What's New for 2019
One year removed from the introduction of a completely redesigned model, the 2019 Kia Rio returns mostly unchanged.
Choosing Your Kia Rio
The 2019 Kia Rio is a front-wheel-drive subcompact with room for five that's available as a hatchback or sedan. Both models share the same wheelbase length, but the sedan is a foot longer overall.
All models come with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It makes 130 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque, and earns an EPA-estimated 28 miles per gallon city, 37 mpg highway, and 32 combined.
The 2019 Rio four-door sedan is available in LX and S trims, while the Rio 5-Door hatchback comes in only S guise.
LX
The Kia Rio LX sedan starts at $16,195 (all prices include the $895 destination fee), or $1. Standard features include halogen headlights, 15-inch steel wheels, a tilt steering column, full power accessories, cloth seats, a six-way adjustable driver seat, a five-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a USB port, and body-colored, power, and heated side mirrors. Besides a rearview camera, the Rio LX also comes with hill start assist control, variable intermittent windshield wipers, heated rear glass, a spare tire, and a tire pressure monitoring system. There are no packages available for the LX trim.
S
The Rio S sedan starts at $16,995, while the Rio S 5-Door costs $17,295. The list of standard features grows to include a seven-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a six-speaker audio system, a center console with a sliding armrest and storage, a 60/40-split fold-down rear seat, adjustable rear headrests, a rear USB port, cruise control, and keyless entry.
Package choices are limited to the S Technology Package, which costs $800 for both the hatchback and sedan. It equips the Rio S with LED headlights, LED positioning lights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a 3.5-inch driver information display, and an upgraded voice-activated infotainment system.
Start your search for a 2019 Kia Rio with the S trim and you’ll come away with a well-equipped subcompact model. Keep in mind that the hatchback features the same cargo capacity as the sedan, so choose it for aesthetic reasons if that's what you prefer.
