Mitsubishi's bargain hatchback, the 2019 Mirage competes in the lowest price class where economy reigns. Buyers who don't mind its tiny three-cylinder engine will be rewarded with class-leading efficiency without the expense of a hybrid setup.
What's New for 2019
The new Limited Edition (LE) trim offers key upgrades at a discounted price. Cruise control, a driver seat height adjuster, and silver seat stitching are now standard across the board.
Choosing Your Mitsubishi Mirage
Every Mirage is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that manages 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard, but most models carry a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). With the CVT installed, the Mirage is EPA-rated at 36 miles per gallon city, 43 mpg highway, and 39 combined. Estimates slip to 33/41/36 mpg (city/highway/combined) with the manual.
While the Mirage is classified as a subcompact, it scores well in cargo capacity. With the rear seats folded, there's 47 cubic feet of load space.
The Mirage now comes in four trim levels:
ES
Priced at $14,825 (all prices include the $895 destination fee and mandatory $135 for carpeted floormats and portfolio), the ES comes with basics like power windows and locks, keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, a rearview camera, and a four-speaker sound system with a seven-inch touchscreen. The ES rides in 14-inch steel wheels with full covers. The CVT can be added for $1,200. There are no factory options for the Mirage, but plenty of dealer-installed accessories are available. Among the most worthy are front and rear parking sensors ($480) and a premium Rockford Fosgate sound system ($595).
LE
The new LE ($16,875) gets the CVT as standard, plus heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and 15-inch black alloy wheels and matching side mirrors. Interiors receive red accents, a driver armrest, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
SE
The $17,525 SE wears 14-inch alloy wheels and body-color mirrors, and loses the red interior accents and heated front seats. Everything else found on the LE on this present, along with automatic climate control and fog lights.
GT
For $18,025, the GT throws in heated front seats, HID headlights, carpeted floor mats, and two-tone 15-inch alloy wheels to the contents found on the SE.
The well-rounded 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage LE shines as the best value in the lineup, and looks a little more distinctive, too. There's really no compelling reason to spend any more on a new Mirage.
