2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid: Redesign Info, Pricing, Release Date

, Automotive Editor - June 19, 2018

Model Preview

After many years in soft-roader guise, Toyota will redesign the RAV4 for 2019 and inject a little ruggedness it has missed in recent generations. These changes will carry over to the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid too.

On the outside, the new RAV4 Hybrid will be virtually unrecognizable when compared to the current model. It will boast a more rugged, angular appearance than before, showing off the fact that it’s more off-road-ready.

Dimensionally, the RAV4’s wheelbase will grow by 1.2 inches, but its length will fall by 0.2 inches. Height will also fall by 0.2 inches, while its width will grow by 0.4 inches.

Inside the cabin, Toyota will push the RAV4 Hybrid to new heights, giving it a cleaner, more refined appearance. The new equipment will include an electric parking brake, an available wireless charger, and improved HVAC knobs. The Limited trim expands on this premium feel with its eight-way power seats, moonroof, 7-inch multi-information display, and available ventilated seats.

Under its hood, the vehicle will continue with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an updated hybrid drive system. While there are no official specs on this hybrid powertrain yet, Toyota does expect it to be more powerful and fuel efficient than the current model, which has 194 combined horsepower at its disposal.

For those looking for added sportiness, there will be a new variant called the XSE, which will feature piano-black front-end accents, mirror caps, fender arches, and lower rocker panels. It’ll also boast a revised powertrain with better acceleration plus a sport-tuned suspension.

Safety remains top of mind for Toyota in the new RAV4 Hybrid. It’ll come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which features automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and lane-centering assist.

Pricing & Release Date

Toyota expects to have the 2019 Toyota RAV4 in showrooms in early 2019. Pricing is due to be released sometime in November of this year.

Expect a mild uptick in MSRP relative to the outgoing model, which ranges from $28,230 to $35,125 (destination fees included).

The RAV4 Hybrid competes with vehicles like the Kia Niro Hybrid.
