What's New

The all-electric 2020 Audi e-tron Sportback returns as a four-door coupe. The two-row e-tron offers utility and take-notice styling of a four-door coupe, all while running on electric power.

The e-tron Sportback is Audi's answer to the Jaguar I-PACE and Tesla Model X. It blends Audi styling and technology with electrification, although its 218-mile range is shorter than its chief competitors.

Choosing Your Audi e-tron

The Audi e-tron Sportback comes in three trims: Premium Plus, Prestige, and Edition One. Pricing starts at $78,395 including destination for the base Premium Plus model and tops out at $89,490 for the Edition One.

Engine Choices

The e-tron Sportback receives its motivation from dual asynchronous electric motors placed on each axle. Power routes to all four wheels via a single-speed automatic transmission. A 95-kWh battery pack stores electricity, and the e-tron gets 218 miles of range, according to the EPA.

Power output comes to 355 horsepower, or 402 hp with boost mode engaged. Boost mode also results in 490 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, it can tow 4,000.

The e-tron takes about nine hours to fully charge when utilizing a 240-volt (Level 2) charging system. With a fast-charging unit, Audi says the e-tron recaptures about 80% of its capacity in 30 minutes.

The e-tron achieves an EPA-estimated 76 miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent (MPGe) city, 78 MPGe highway, and 77 combined.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The e-tron Sportback seats five passengers. The front seats are comfortable and supportive; the rear seat is best for two, but holds three in a pinch. Despite the sloping roofline, head room isn’t compromised.

Thanks to the battery pack located underneath, the storage area features a flat floor. That cargo space measures 27.2 cubic feet behind the second row or 54.5 with it folded.

Safety Features

Audi equips the e-tron Sportback with an impressive list of standard active safety features. Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, vehilcle exit warning, traffic jam assist, and traffic sign recognition are all included.

The e-tron comes with a 10.1-inch upper touchscreen and an 8.6-inch lower touchscreen. This large infotainment set up includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, HD radio, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. A 16-speaker Bang and Olufsen audo system, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a wireless charging pad are also standard.

The Prestige model adds a head-up display.

Premium Plus - From $78,395

Audi equips the e-tron Premium Plus with LED headlights and taillights, 20-inch wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a hands-free tailgate. Keyless entry and start are also included.

Inside, passengers are treated to leather upholstery, four-zone automatic cliamte control, wood trim, a panoramic sunroof, 12-way power front seats with heating and ventilation, heated rear seats, and more.

The Towing package ($650) unlocks the 4,000-pound towing capacity and also adds a tow hitch receiver and seven-pin connector.

Prestige - From $84,295

The Prestige package adds more leather on the dashboard, door armrests, and center console while also upgrading to Valcona leather seating. Other upgrades include 18-way power front seats, the head-up display, power soft-close doors, a second charge port, and an air ionizer.

Edition One - From $89,490

A limited number of Edition One versions add unique touches, setting it apart from the standard model. These include 21-inch black wheels with orange brake calipers, a special Plasma Blue metallic exterior paint, and a blue leather interior.

CarsDirect Tip

The 2020 Audi e-tron Sportback blends electric power, unique four-door coupe styling, and a nice array of features. We'd stick with the Premium Plus trim, since it's already loaded with features.

Of course, adding a 240-volt home charging station is very important, as is downloading the Electrify America app to find the hundreds of charge stations located across the country.
