What's New

The 2020 Audi S8 is back with more of what matters most in this segment. Its luxury is uncompromising, the power is unrelenting, the chassis features cutting-edge technology, and its body wears curves previously forbidden in Ingolstadt. The all-new S8 puts its foot down firmly in a segment where confidence is everything.

Choosing Your Audi S8

The S8 is available in one trim, the S8 L. It starts at $130,495 including destination.

Engine Choices

The Audi S8 continues in its tradition of carrying the biggest stick that Audi has available. In this case, it's a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that has been tuned to generate 563 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. These figures are over 120 hp and 100 lb-ft of torque more than what the top Audi A8 offers with the same engine displacement.

The engine is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the brand's quattro all-wheel drive, and a torque-vectoring rear differential. With everything put together, the S8 will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

The big and powerful sports sedan yields expectedly small fuel efficiency figures. It's rated at an EPA-estimated 13 miles per gallon city, 22 mpg highway, and 16 combined.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The S8 is a thoroughly reworked high-performance sedan based on the A8, so it should come as no surprise that the interior is plenty roomy for five. It rides on a 123.2-inch wheelbase, which affords 41.5 inches of front leg room and 44.3 inches of rear leg room, but leaves only 12.5 cubic feet of trunk space.

Safety Features

Despite the high price of the S8, the standard active safety features are limited to automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, a surround-view camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.

The available Driving Assistance Package ($2,750) can be added for adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic jam assist, traffic sign recognition, and intersection assist. The S8 Executive Package ($3,300) enhances the active-safety portfolio with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a vehicle exit warning system, and upgraded matrix-design headlights.

The S8 comes standard with Audi’s multimedia infotainment system that incorporates two configurable center touchscreen displays: a 10.1-inch upper and an 8.6-inch lower. The driver gauge cluster is also a 12.3-inch LCD screen.

Navigation is standard, as are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, HD radio, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. A couple of front USB ports, a wireless phone charger, and a signal booster are also included.

Audiophiles will not likely be disappointed by the standard 17-speaker Bang and Olufsen audio system. However, in this always-looking-to-impress segment, a Bang and Olufsen system with 23 speakers is available for $5,900.

S8 L - From $130,495

The Audi S8 L includes a long list of noteworthy standard features, as it should for the price. Compared with the A8, the S8 wears sportier S-brand front and rear fascia, extended side skirts, aluminum-optic side mirror housings, 20-inch wheels, black S-branded brake calipers, and quad exhaust outlets for a distinctive look.

Luxurious exterior touches include LED lighting with dynamic sequencing patterns, 20-inch wheels, power soft-close doors, dual-pane acoustic-laminated glass, and a panoramic sunroof.

Inside, carbon-woven inlays and dark matte brushed aluminum trim pieces are contrasted by soft-touch Nappa leather that wraps most of the interior surfaces and an Alcantara headliner. Four-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats with 22-way power up the luxury quotient.

To ensure the rear passengers aren’t left out in the cold, the $3,500 Rear Seat Comfort package adds headed touch surfaces (armrests and center console), heated and ventilated seats with massage, and more comfortable headrests.

An extended Nappa Leather package is $5,500 which virtually leaves no surface untouched by luxury, while the $9,900 Gray Ceramic Brake package caters to those looking to regularly take their S8 to the track.
