What's New
The 2020 Ford EcoSport carries on with few changes other than a minor shuffling of features between packages. Notably, FordPass Connect, which brings remote services like the ability to unlock and start the vehicle with a smartphone app, is now standard.
The EcoSport remains a small crossover that mainly appeals to those who think the price is right and can deal with the compact dimensions. Otherwise, a larger crossover that's more powerful and efficient may be more suitable.
Choosing Your Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport is available in four trims: S, SE, Titanium, and SES. Pricing starts at $21,580 including destination for the S and reaches $28,475 for the SES.
Engine Choices
The Ford EcoSport is offered with two engines. A 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine is standard, while a 2.0-liter four-cylinder is available on the first three trims and standard on the SES.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
1.0L 3-Cylinder | 123 hp | 125 lb-ft | 28 mpg |
2.0L 4-Cylinder | 166 hp | 149 lb-ft | 25 mpg |
The bigger engine requires upgrading to four-wheel drive and costs $1,450 to $1,595, depending on the trim. The 1.0-liter three-cylinder is available only with front-wheel drive. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The EcoSport offers seating for five passengers, but good luck to those trying to fit three adults in comfort in the back. Cargo capacity checks in at 20.9 cubic feet behind the second row, or 50 cubes with it folded. The deep cargo area floor can be raised if a flatter loading floor is preferred.
Safety Features
The EcoSport, like many Ford models, comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360. The suite of active safety features includes automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams.
The NHTSA has given the EcoSport a four-star overall safety rating.
Connectivity
The base S model only gets a 4.2-inch LCD screen with a simplified version of the Sync infotainment system, but it does come with two USB ports. Step up to the SE to get an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3 infotainment, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio.
The basic S trim is quite basic, as highlighted by the molded-in-plastic black exterior trim pieces and four-way manual driver seat. It does get automatic headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a PTC heater that adds instant heat.
Remote start is a $495 option.
The SE is distinguished with body-colored exterior trim pieces, fog lights, LED daytime running lights, and a moonroof. The inside gains the upgraded infotainment system, proximity entry, push button start, automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel.
The optional SE Convenience Package ($1,495) includes navigation, a seven-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, and an AC power outlet.
The interior receives the attention of the Titanium trim. Perforated leather seating, a six-way power driver's seat, a nine-speaker Bang and Olufsen audio system, navigation, and a heated steering wheel highlight the updates. Chrome exterior trim, silver roof rails, and unique 17-inch wheels add an upscale look.
The SES takes on a sporty theme with darkened headlight housings, fog light bezels, grille, and mirror caps. Unique exterior trim and 17-inch wheels also work to set the tone. The sport-tuned suspension and standard all-wheel drive work the theme from behind the scenes. The seats change to stain-resistant leatherette.
The SES Black Appearance Package is $395 and adds a black painted roof, black rear spoiler, and a black hood decal.
Compare EcoSport Trims Side-By-Side
The 2020 Ford EcoSport SE with the Convenience Package brings added safety features and the latest Ford infotainment system. The higher trims cost much more and start to bring comparisons to larger vehicles.
