What's New
Returning for its third year on the market, the 2020 Jaguar E-Pace sees mostly minor changes. The base trim gets extra standard features, and the S trim is now only available with the upgraded engine. A new Checkered Flag Edition is new for 2020. Perhaps of more interest to most buyers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are now standard.
Choosing Your Jaguar E-PACE
The E-Pace comes in five main trims: E-Pace, SE, Checkered Flag, S, and HSE. The new Checkered Flag Edition is based on the S trim, although it borrows a few features from the HSE. Pricing starts at $40,945 including destination for the standard E-Pace and extends up to $53,945 for an HSE.
It's important to note that the E-Pace is available in three distinct models: regular E-Pace, R-Dynamic, and Checkered Flag. The regular model is available in E-Pace and SE trims; the R-Dynamic is offered in S, SE, and HSE guise; and the Checkered Flag is exclusively offered with, you guessed it, the Checkered Flag trim.
Engine Choices
The E-Pace comes with two available engines, or rather, two tunes of the same engine. Only the SE trim is available with either engine – the E-Pace and Checkered Flag are only available with the lower tune, while the S and HSE only come with the extra power.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
P250 2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder | 246 hp | 269 lb-ft | 24 mpg |
P300 2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder | 296 hp | 295 lb-ft | 23 mpg |
Both engines come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, which isn't the case for many rivals. The system on the upgraded engine is more sophisticated, capable of shuttling power to any wheel for better grip.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Although it competes against compact crossovers and SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class or BMW X1, the E-Pace is a little larger than either of those two. As a result, it seats five in relative comfort, though it’s better for four.
Cargo space is also strong, with 24.2 cubic feet behind the seats. Fold down the second row, and that number rises to 52.7 cubic feet – 9 more cubic feet than the GLA-Class.
Safety Features
The E-Pace gets a fairly comprehensive suite of active safety technologies. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and driver attention monitors.
Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and high-speed automatic emergency braking are available through the $1,700 Drive Pro Pack. A surround-view camera, park assist system, and rear cross-traffic alert are bundled in the $700 Park Pro Pack. Prices can vary based on the trim.
Connectivity
A 10-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard on every E-Pace. It comes with USB ports and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, which is newly standard for 2020. Navigation is a $900 option on the base model, but standard on all other trims.
E-PACE - From $40,945
Although it’s the cheapest way into an E-Pace, the base model is well equipped. It comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and LED headlights. The exterior gets 18-inch wheels and heated side mirrors.
Though the base model may not come with as much standard equipment as the rest of the lineup, option selection is uninhibited. Everything from a surround sound system ($870) to a head-up display ($970) to heated seats ($510 per row) to a panoramic moonroof ($1,225) may be added à la carte.
SE - From $44,695
The E-Pace SE is the only trim to come with either engine, but the upgrade costs $5,500. The SE gets navigation, a wi-fi hotspot, an 11-speaker audio system, a power liftgate, and the contents of the Park Pro Pack as standard.
Buyers can equip their E-Pace with a heated steering wheel, a heated windshield, and heated washer jets with the $640 Cold Climate Pack.
Checkered Flag - From $47,395
Although designated as a special edition, the Checkered Flag is essentially an S trim with the base engine. It does get a few unique aesthetic upgrades like Checkered Flag badges, 19-inch wheels, and black exterior accents. It also gets a few feature upgrades like blind-spot monitoring and heated seats.
The Drive Pro Pack is cheaper here ($1,200) thanks to the standard blind-spot monitoring.
S - From $47,595
Though the R-Dynamic S costs more than the base model SE or the Checkered Flag, most of that money goes toward the engine (and the more capable all-wheel drive).
The S doesn’t include the parking features or the upgraded audio system that come with the SE. The R-Dynamic S does get aerodynamic accents and sport seats, and paddle shifters.
HSE - From $53,945
The HSE is the king of the E-Pace hill. This means 20-inch wheels, keyless entry, Windsor leather, and all active safety features included standard. The driver gets an upgraded digital instrument display, which is optional on other trims. A head-up display is a $970 standalone option.

The base 2020 Jaguar E-Pace model comes with a good set of features, but prices increase quickly with option selection. If it were us, we’d keep a light hand in the configurator.
