2020 Jaguar XE: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

, Automotive Editor - February 28, 2019

Model Preview

The Jaguar XE debuted in 2016, giving the British automaker a compact sedan that can compete with the 3-Series and C-Class models in the luxury space. Since its debut, the XE has seen tons of updates under the skin, but it has remained visually the same. That’s about to change, as the 2020 Jaguar XE will bring in a big-time refresh and a simplified engine lineup. Here’s what to expect.

On the outside, the 2020 Jaguar XE’s refresh is about as dramatic as it can get with all new front and rear bumpers, a wider grille with a new mesh insert, a new rear valence, and redesigned LED headlights and taillights.

Inside, the 2020 Jaguar XE gets a handful of updates too. The 2020 XE will treat buyers to new soft-touch materials throughout, a more practical door panel design, a new optional InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with a 12.3-inch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new human-machine interface, a new F-Type-inspired SportShift gear shifter with a JaguarDrive Control toggle switch, a high-definition rear-camera mirror, and much more.

Standard features will also see a healthy update in the 2020 XE. The newly standard features will include 18-inch wheels, power front seats, LED headlights and taillights, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and more.

Under the skin, the 2020 Jaguar XE will go through a major simplification, giving buyers fewer powertrain configurations and eliminating decision paralysis. The base XE S (P250) will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that will produce 247 horsepower. This unit will come standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive will be an available option. The range-topping R-Dynamic S (P300) model will use a 296-hp 2.0-liter and standard all-wheel drive for a 5.4-second 0-to-60 sprint. For now, there will be no V6 or V8 versions of the XE.

2020 Jaguar XE

The IIHS has not tested the current Jaguar XE yet, nor has the NHTSA. In terms of active safety tech, the current XE has blind-spot monitors, lane departure warnings, automatic high beams, and parking sensors, but Jaguar bundles them with automatic emergency braking. We expect this to remain unchanged in the 2020 Jaguar XE, but it will gain an optional Driver Condition Monitor that measure steering, throttle and brake inputs, and analyzes lane departure and turn signal use to determine how alert the driver is.

Pricing & Release Date

The 2020 Jaguar XE will hit showrooms in the summer of 2019 priced from $40,895 to $47,290 (destination fees included).

The 2020 Jaguar XE will compete with the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the Audi A4.
