2020 Lexus UX: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

, Automotive Editor - June 17, 2019

Model Preview

After the warm reception the C-HR received, Toyota saw it fit to slide its platform over to Lexus, increase the power, add an all-wheel-drive hybrid model, and pile on loads of features to create the Lexus UX. With this tiny luxury crossover entering just its second year, we expect the 2020 Lexus UX to arrive unchanged.

The C-HR was already stylish enough, but Lexus-ifying it with the bold spindle grille, sharp headlights with signature LED accents, pronounced hips, and luxurious wheels took it to a new level. We expect this sharp-looking luxury subcompact crossover to enter 2020 with no noticeable changes to its design.

Inside, Lexus designers did a great job whitewashing all the C-HR bits and making the cabin all Lexus. Not that there is anything wrong with the C-HR's interior — it’s just not Lexus quality. These Lexus design cues include a thick tri-spoke steering wheel, a widescreen infotainment center, the Remote Touch Interface, upscale upholstery, and much more. With the design still fresh and plenty of real estate between it and the C-HR, we expect no changes to the 2020 UX’s cabin.

2019 Lexus UX

We expect the 2020 Lexus UX to continue with the same two variants: UX 200 and US 250h. The UX 200 is expected to continue with the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 169 horsepower to the front wheels. The UX 250h will use an Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, an electrically controlled continuously variable transmission, and a rear-axle-mounted electric motor to send 176 hp to all four wheels up to 44 mph. After cresting 44 mph, the UX 250h will shift to front-wheel-drive only.

The current Lexus UX is an IIHS Top Safety Pick thanks to its high crash-test scores and standard automatic emergency braking. Other standard safety gear includes automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and more. We expect this to remain the same in the 2020 Lexus UX.

Pricing & Release Date

There is no official on-sale date for the 2020 Lexus UX, but we expect to see it in late 2019. With no changes in the works, we expect no big pricing shifts relative to the current model, which ranges from $33,175 to $40,375 (destination fees included).

The 2020 Lexus UX will compete with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.
