2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is available in two trims: SEL and GT. Pricing starts at $37,405 including destination for the SEL and rises to $42,805 for the GT.

Every Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 117 horsepower. A pair of electric motors on each axle brings performance to a net 190 horsepower. Power is routed to all four wheels utilizing a single-speed transmission.

According to the EPA, the Outlander PHEV gets 22 miles of all-electric range. It gets 25 miles per gallon combined, or 74 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent). DC fast charging is standard.

Unlike the standard three-row Outlander, the PHEV offers just two rows of seating. That said, there's ample space for five passengers, essentially matching the space found in the Ford Escape or Nissan Rogue.

The standard cargo space measures 30.4 cubic feet, which is less than the Honda CR-V. The good news is that the rear seat folds flat and opens up 66.6 cubic feet of space, which is average for the segment.

Every Outlander PHEV comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. The GT trim adds adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera system.

We like the surround-view camera, which simulates a bird’s-eye view of the crossover. It makes parking easier in tight spaces and allows the driver to spot anything that otherwise might be blocked from sight.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has an 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice recognition. Standard equipment also includes a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and USB input.

The SEL comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, heated and power-folding side mirrors, roof rails, and a rear spoiler. Keyless entry with push button start is included.

Inside, the seats are covered with an imitation suede material and the driver benefits from a power seat with lumbar support. Other features include a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The GT brings in numerous premium features. This trim has full LED headlights, a power sunroof with a sunshade, and a power liftgate. Inside, this trim supplies full leather seating, a heated steering wheel, and a Mitsubishi audio system.
